UPDATE: Whole Foods sale on kosher cheddar cheese: as low as $3.14 for a 12 oz. package for residents of Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah

UPDATE:  It appears that I was initially given the wrong information about this sale. It is NOT a national sale.  It covers Whole Foods located in Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah only. My apologies to readers who tried to get this price outside of this region.

Kosher cheese has always cost at least 30% more than its non-kosher counterpart, and when you live outside of the New York metro area, you can add at least another 10% to that number.  It's always been a challenge to find reasonably priced, high-quality kosher cheese in Denver.  My husband is a bit of a cheese snob, and isn't too crazy about the taste of the "heimishe" brands of cheese, most of which cost a small fortune out here anyway.

Whole Foods is running a national regional sale on their 365 brand of Kosher Cheddar Cheese:  $3.49 for the 12 oz. package through 8/27/13.  The 365 brand of Kosher Cheddar Cheese is under the hashgacha of Star-K through their Star-D (chalav stam) division.  The regular price on this cheese is $5.99.

Here's the additional kicker:  Whole Foods gives 10% case discounts on packaged cheese when you buy 12 of them (and yes, their cheddar freezes wonderfully so no worries about spoilage).  So when you buy 12, you'll get this cheese for $3.14 per 12 oz. package.

My stock-up price on kosher cheddar has always been $0.45-$0.50 per oz.  Until now, we've always bought the Tillamook kosher cheddar for $3.69 for the 8 oz. brick, which comes to $0.46 per oz.  This deal on the 365 cheese blows that price away.

If I buy less than 12 packages of the 365 cheese at $3.49, that comes to $0.29 per oz.  If I buy 12 or more packages at once with the 10% discount, that will come to $0.26 per oz. ($4.16 per lb.), almost half of my regular stock-up price.  And according to my picky husband, this is some awesome-tasting cheddar.

Yes, we're stocking up.

Since this is a national regional sale, you should be able to find it in your local Whole Foods if you live in Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah only.
