Amazon has got this 72-foot outdoor solar string light set for just $14.99 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping. These strike me as an absolutely perfect idea for Sukkot/Succos.
The way it works is this: the string lights have a small panel that stays exposed to sunlight during the day and then, when night falls and the panel is no longer in the light, the string lights come on automatically. They operate on solar power, so no outlet or extension cord is needed. They are rated for outdoor use, so they shouldn't short out when it rains.
This set got 4.9 out of 5 stars over 62 customer reviews, which is amazing, but I read most of the reviews and be aware that many of the reviewers got free or discounted string lights in order to review them, so that might favorably skew the ratings. This set is also an Amazon #1 New Release.
That said, this set seems perfect for Sukkot! Last year we had an issue with our timer (it basically got rained on and died), so we had some nighttime lighting issues in the Sukkah. I'm buying these solar string lights to eliminate the entire timer and outlet issue from the equation.
