Everything grows hydroponically in water (no soil, no bugs).  This set comes with a gourmet herb seed set included (genovese basil, thai basil, curly parsley, cilantro, dill, mint) though you can buy other seed sets online if you like for this six-pod AeroGarden, and grow other things besides herbs.  And while this price might strike you as expensive, it is the lowest price Amazon has ever posted on this item (the previous lowest price was $121.96!) and the lowest price I've seen on any AeroGarden this size.
