Groupon has got a nice deal on a one-year Sam's Club membership (value $45) along with a $20 Sam's Club gift card for $45 total, but when you enter the promo code SAMS20, that total drops by $9.00 to $36.00.

There are other benefits as well, but you might or might not be able to take full advantage of them, as they involve a food package that is not kosher.  When we bought a Sam's Club membership through social purchasing, I went over to the Sam's Club customer service desk, asked for a manager and showed him the vouchers that I could not use. He allowed me to substitute a bag of (hechshered) salmon instead of the non-kosher food, so I got the full value of the package.  You may or may not be able to do the same thing, depending on how nice they are at your Sam's Club.

Nevertheless, if you've been looking into a Sam's Club membership, this is still a great deal.  When you factor in the $20 free gift card, it's like getting the membership for $16 instead of $45.  Sam's Club memberships make great engagement gifts, btw.

Some new things this year:

1. You can now chat with a OU kashrus specialist and get a more immediate response to your question on this page on the OU website. Click the blue chat icon on the lower right-hand side.  The Star-K also has this feature on their home page.  Look for "Chat with Star-K" in the top center porton of the page.


2. Quinoa now requires special Pesach certification for 2016 according to the OU, but the Star-K is once again allowing Ancient Harvest without any special Passover certification.  The following brands have special OU-P runs:  Earthly Choice Tri-Color Quinoa, Goldbaum's Tricolor Quinoa, Goolbaum White Quinoa, Goolbaum Tri Color Quinoa, La Bonne Quinoa, La Bonne Mediterranean Quinoa, La Bonne Mushrooms & Herbs Quinoa, Natural Earth Products Quinoa, Pereg Red Quinoa, Pereg Quinoa Flour, Pereg White Quinoa, Pereg Tri-Color Quinoa, Setton Quinoa, Streit's Quinoa.

There is a catch though: it's a University of Arkansas version, which means that it has a picture of a razorback boar (the school mascot) on each side.  Now you might take a very practical view and decide that you don't care about the design because the price is so unbelievably low for a Crock Pot of this size.  I personally would just put some decorative Con-Tact paper over them and voila, no more razorback boars and I've got a huge Crock Pot for a song.
