Hot water urns $38-$40

We used to have one of those plastic hot water "pumps" for Pesach. Then we had to replace it.  Then we had to replace it again.  Then we had to replace it again.  You get the idea.  I'm pretty much done with the crummy-quality hot water pumps.

We got our trusty Plain Old Urn for Pesach about four years ago and never looked back.  We don't really need to worry about those nasty hard water deposits because it's used for only one week a year, so the inside still looks brand new.

Amazon has got some very good deals on hot water urns.  The first one is a little better than the second in price-per-capacity, but I'm going to share both of them because the first one is currently out of stock.  They are restocking it and you can still order it, but if'you're very nervous about the urn arriving before Pesach, order the second one.  It's about the same price but a smaller capacity.

Get this Hamilton Beach 42-cup urn for $37.99 with free shipping.  It got 4 out of 5 stars over 42 customer reviews, and $38 is a great price.  (Target's got it for $45 plus shipping.)  They are currently out of stock, but you can still order it and they will fulfill it as soon as they get more in.

But, if you're nervous about the timing, here's a slightly smaller version for about the same price:

Amazon has got this Westbend 30-cup urn for $39.89 with free shipping.  It got 4 1/2  out of 5 stars over 110 customer reviews.  Even with the smaller capacity, $40 is a really good price.  (Buy.com has it for $45.73.)  This is actually the urn that we have for Pesach.  I purposely wanted a smaller capacity because we have a small kitchen, the water heats faster, and you can refill an urn on YomTov (not Shabbos though!) as long as there is enough water to start with so that the light doesn't change color, so I wasn't really concerned about needing more hot water for my guests.  I also really like the Westbend name.

  1. I really think you are inside my head and thinking about all of our Pesach needs. We have the urn on top for the regular year (and we used it first at Pesach last year!), and I am debating getting another one or going without tea for a week. Given the warm weather here lately, I think I'll go without tea rather than spend another $40... but these are both terrific deals!

  2. Caroline, if an urn it out of your budget this year, you can always go with a tea kettle on a blech. That's how we got through our first two years of marriage and it was fine! No need to go without hot drinks.

  5. Malka, they are on Amazon, so no, they are not pre-toveled.
