Stacking to Save on a Staple: unadvertised Skippy peanut butter gift card deal at Target, stacked with price-matching, stacked with coupon gets you over a pound of peanut butter for $1.30 (less than $0.08 cents per oz.)

Target has an unadvertised special on all varieties of the 16.3 oz. Skippy peanut butter this week (creamy, chunky, reduced fat, etc.).  Buy five of them at $3.24 each = $16.20, get a $5 Target gift card, which lowers the price on the peanut butter to $2.24 each.  Great deal!

But, if you live near an Albertsons (AR, AZ, CO, FL, LA, NM, or TX) and you can get a hold of their circular (the one good through 10/30/12), you can do better.

You can price match the Skippy to the Albertson's price of $2.50 each jar.  Then, buy five of them at $2.50 = $12.50, get a $5 Target gift card, which lowers the price on each jar of peanut butter to $1.50.

But wait, you can do even better.

Sign up for Unilever's site, Making Life Better, and print two of the $0.50/2 Skippy coupons in the members-only section.  Use two of these coupons to drop that $12.50 total price to $11.50, get the $5 Target gift card, which lowers the price on each jar of peanut butter to $1.30 for each 16.3 oz. jar.

And if you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that I track the price of peanut butter as an indicator as to how expensive food has become, and less than $0.08 per oz. of name-brand peanut butter is an unheard-of price.

Time to stock up.

Even if you don't live near an Albertson's, scour your other local stores' circulars for a Skippy price lower than $3.24, or if you'd rather not do the work, just use the coupons on the gift card deal.  Either way, you'll still save quite a bit on the peanut butter.
