LOWEST PRICE: "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up; the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing" for $7.64 (and why I really liked this book)

Amazon has got the hardcover edition of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up; the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing for its lowest recorded Amazon price ever, $7.64 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping in hardcover.   4.4 out of 5 stars over 1,662 customer reviews.

I posted this deal a few months ago, and I also decided go ahead and actually buy this book.

I know everyone suddenly gets into organization and cleaning as part of their New Year's resolutions, etc. but for me, the "tidying up" issue is chronic.  I'm definitely not a fan of self-help books, but this short, easy-to-read book was a best seller written by a Japanese professional declutterer and promised to be something different. It definitely delivered on that.

I liked it quite a bit for its unconventionality and its fearless bucking of commonplace truisms about organization. So if "do a little bit every day" and "every time you buy something, throw something else out" and "cleaning is a never-ending, gradual process" and "if you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it" etc. simply don't work for you, read this book.

It's unabashedly Japanese in its approach.  The author, Marie Kondo, makes no apologies for flying in the face of American convention and wisdom.  She talks about the root of attachments to objects, methods for getting yourself to discard things, and how getting rid of clutter can break other negative cycles in your life and cause a sea-change in your mood and behavior.  While I didn't agree with everything in her philosophy (i.e. I don't believe that objects contain specific karmic energies), it was a great read and inspired me to get going on decluttering my house.

This New York Times best-selling guide to decluttering your home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.

Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?

Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).

With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house “spark joy” (and which don’t), this international bestseller featuring Tokyo’s newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home—and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.
