Tomorrow is the last day to get a free $25 Gift Card from American Express. This is a total no-brainer.
UPDATE: Yes, I know, I'm hammering this deal to death, but I'm doing it because I really do believe this is one of the best, easiest, no-brainer offers out there, and you have only until tomorrow, June 30, to take advantage of it. American Express is a secure, very established company, and they don't put out deals like this too often. Every Daily Cheapskate reader should take advantage of this offer.
Wondering how to use your $200 pre-paid card after you've ordered it? Well, you can use it anywhere at all that takes American Express. You can also use it at Costco! Costco doesn't accept Visa or Mastercard, but they do accept American Express.
Hurry and take advantage of this, before this offer disappears.
American Express has an excellent, easy new offer out: order an American Express pre-paid card, load $200 or more at the time of order and receive a complimentary $25 gift card as a bonus.
That's it. Awesome.
The American Express pre-paid card spends just like cash wherever regular American Express cards are accepted, with no fees. You even get the fraud protection and roadside assistance programs of regular American Express memberships. There are no annual fees, no monthly fees, no customer service fees, no credit checks to get it (though you will need to enter your social security number), no overdraft fees (you spend what you load on the card), no transaction fees, and you even get one free ATM withdrawal per month (after one withdrawal, you'll be charged $2 for each one).
I ordered one card for myself and one for my husband, and we've already received them and used them with no problem. To me, this was a no-brainer easy $50 for the inconvenience of moving around $400. This cost nothing to do, as I've just been using the pre-paid cards the same way I use my regular American Express cards. These cards are also great to use at Costco, as they accept only checks, debits and AmEx cards. You can also just withdraw the cash. These cards are also awesome for travel.
What are we doing with the two bonus $25 gift cards? They are going directly into our Sharf iPad Savings Fund.
Some helpful instructions: when you buy a $200 prepaid American Express card using your checking account, American Express will simultaneously put two tiny deposits and one tiny withdrawal through your checking account (the amounts will zero out). This is just to confirm that it is indeed your checking account. When you see these amounts showing up on your account, go to http://www.AmericanExpress.com/prepaid, log in and enter the two deposit amounts. Once you do that, your prepaid card order will go through on your checking account, and you should receive your cards shortly after that. The bonus $25 gift cards will come to the card purchaser 6 weeks later. (When you use the $200 prepaid cards, make sure you leave at least $1 on each card, as the cards need to be active when you receive the bonus gift cards. If you've already taken out all the money, simply go online and put another $10 on the card and keep it there until you receive the $25 gift card.)
You do not need to enter a promo code. Click through this special link to qualify for this $25 American Express gift card offer.

Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day: Double and Single InStep Safari Jogging Strollers
If you're an active parent or grandparent of young kids or babies, you're going to absolutely love today's Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day: single or double InStep Safari Jogging Strollers!
The single strollers are on sale for $95.99 with free shipping (they go back to their normal price of $129.99 after today). They come in two color combos, gray/green (immediately below):
And green/gray (immediately below):
The double strollers are on sale too for $129.99 with free shipping. These too will go back up to their normal price of $179.99 after today. They're available in the same color combos, gray/green (immediately below):
And green/gray (immediately below):
- 12-inch front and 16-inch rear pneumatic tires with molded rims provide performance and durability.
- Molded parent tray with two cup holders adds convenience.
- Dual trigger folding mechanism offers uncompromising safety.
- Rubberized handle grip is comfortable and slip resistant.
- Pivoting, molded child trays with two cup holders each.
"...I spent hours researching double strollers. It came down to this stroller and the Turismo. The only difference is the Turismo's aluminum frame. I went with this stroller and could not be more pleased!Read the Amazon reviews on these before you buy; they are very informative and frank and share a lot of information. FYI, Toys 'R Us has got the identical double stroller for $189.99 and the single stroller for $139.99. Bottom line: these are good prices on good strollers.
After all my research, it seemed many jogging strollers were too short for big kids. For parents with tall children - my two-year-old daughter is over three feet tall, and she fits fine with room to spare. This one is great for her, and she's in the top percentiles all around!"
- This stroller isn't very heavy - I can get it in and out of our car fairly well (it fits in our Sonata's trunk, but it takes the entire trunk, which is good sized). And, for at least $100 less, it's worth a little more weight!
- The independent sun-shades are a must. They are sturdy and effective and easy to position.
- It pushes SO easily, even with my 35 lb. two-year-old in one side and baby in the other. It has minimal pull, even on hills.
- It's easy to fold (though the locking clip isn't very secure on mine and sometimes pops off when I'm trying to get it in the car).
Remember, these strollers are on sale today only (6/29/12) and after tonight, they'll be back to their original prices. Get the single strollers jogging stroller for $95.99, and the double jogging stroller for $129.99, both with free shipping, today only.
The end is near! (The end of the month, that is....)
The end of the month is (gulp) tomorrow! Where did June go? The end of the month means we can look forward to some new coupons popping up in the changing of the (coupon) guard on 7/1/12. It also means that many of your favorite coupons, you know, the ones you've been meaning to print but haven't gotten round to, are going to disappear. If you've got any coupons on Coupons.com, SmartSource, Red Plum, Whole Foods, Target, Betty Crocker, or Cellfire, that you've been eyeing, now is a good time to put paper in the printer.
Without question, the absolute best deal of June was the American Express $25 bonus gift card. It was so simple to do and the easiest money I've made this month. Unlike some other deals that are floating around, American Express is a very secure, established company, and you don't need to worry about getting scammed or cheated. I wish I could post no-brainer deals like this all the time! If you haven't done it yet, their excellent offer expires after 6/30/12, so hurry up.
Summer is here in full force! Our Fourth of July Big Barbecue is next week (help!). Vacations are rolling and budgets are getting squeezed. We're spending money on keeping cool, entertaining, traveling and recreation. How I love summertime! Of course, I'm always looking ahead and already scouting around for ways to save money on Rosh Hashana and Sukkot, (and I'm sure some of you frugal parents are already hunting down school supply deals) but let's not wish our summer away; it'll go by too quickly anyway...

Get 250 points for linking your Mastercard to Shopkick, today, 6/27/12 only
Today, 6/27/12, you'll get 250 kicks for linking your Mastercard on your Shopkick app. This is a one-time only bonus, so make sure you link up your Mastercard today. You can do this by clicking on the little gear icon in the upper-left hand corner, and then clicking on "Buy & Collect" and following directions from there. Make sure you are using the latest version of Shopkick software, version 2.6, or you won't be able to do this. Once your card is linked, you can earn some major kicks when you use that card to shop at stores like Old Navy, Crate & Barrel, Best Buy, American Eagle, Arden B, and others.
Whoa! Don't know what ShopKick is? Here's the story.
Basically, ShopKick is a smartphone app that rewards shoppers with "kicks" (formerly called "kickbucks," points which can be redeemed for store gift cards) simply for shopping at a brick & mortar store. Sounds pretty un-techy, you say, for this day and age? Not at all. How does Shopkick know you are actually in the store? Because you "check in" via the smartphone application that locates you via GPS. Shopkick also gives you points for scanning items in-store and in some cases, for buying items. Shopkick also has some unique digital coupons (that I haven't seen anywhere else) that you just show to the cashier and ask her to scan when you purchase something in a Shopkick member store. Finally, if you would like to earn points without even getting in the car, Shopkick's also got "Instant Surprises" that allow you to earn kicks while sitting on your couch. The points accumulate pretty quickly (frankly, I can't be bothered with points programs where you need to wait forever for a reward). I've accumulated almost $150 in Target gift cards to date, and my effort-to-reward ratio on this program is very, very low.
Here's how to get Shopkick on your phone, and get a 50 kicks bonus to boot. Click here through my special link (and thanks for letting me refer you), and fill out the short form. Shopkick will text the link to their (free) app directly to your smartphone. Just click on the link in the text and it will download and install on your phone. You'll get an instant 50 kickbucks just for signing up through my referral link. Gift cards start at 500 kickbucks, so between the 50 sign-up kicks and the 150 kicks you'll get tomorrow just for walking in to Target, you'll be 40% of the way to your first reward. I love this app.
Using Shopkick is pretty intuitive, but for more info on how to navigate through it and earn kicks, check out my Shopkick tutorial here.
One of the new features of Shopkick is being able to gift your friends with points (it's one of the "Instant Surprises"). Lately, I've been getting a ton of the these "gifts" to give away and I can give them to an unlimited amount of friends. If you would like to get on my list of Shopkick gift recipients, I'd be happy to include you. All you have to do is Like the Daily Cheapskate page on Facebook, and subscribe to the once-daily Daily Cheapskate email digest. Then send your email address to me with the words "Shopkick gift list" in the subject line, and I'll be happy to include you on my Gift List. You'll receive free kicks each time I get the opportunity to send a Shopkick gift.
How to use ShopKick: a step-by-step tutorial (updated 6/27/12 for version 2.6)
I've been recommending Shopkick, my favorite smartphone shopping app, for months now, but recently, Shopkick came out with a new version of their software that is more versatile but also more complicated to use. I've posted a brief tutorial below on how to earn points (called "kicks") that you can redeem for giftcards and also save money with Shopkick. But before we get to that, let's get you set up with a superquick installation on your smartphone:
Click here, and fill out the short form. Shopkick will text the link to their free app directly to your smartphone. Just click on the link in the text message and it will download and install on your phone. You'll get an instant 50 kicks (points) just for going through this link!Ok, you've got the app? Locked and loaded? Now here's how to use it:
- Nearby tab: this will automatically refresh via GPS everytime you pull down the screen with your finger. It will list all the nearby Shopkick vendors and how you can earn points in their stores (walk-ins, scans, etc.). Drill down to each individual store to see your options.
- Faves tab: add the stores that you love to the Faves screen. This will let Shopkick know to keep you informed about those stores' deals, coupons, specials, etc. Just go to the Nearby tab, find the stores you want, and click on the "Fave" star in the upper right-hand corner.
- Walk-ins: you can get kicks for walking into some stores, but not others. How do you know which stores have walk-in rewards? Look at the Nearby tab, and find those stores listed under the "Walk-in kicks & deals" heading. Once you are near a store that offers walk-in rewards, just enter the store, open the app in the entrance area, and wait for a few seconds, until the big green welcome bubble pops up showing how many kicks you've earned just for walking in. In the Denver area where I live, I earn Kickbucks for walking in to Target/SuperTarget, Best Buy, American Eagle, West Elm, Old Navy and Crate & Barrel and a few others. The stores available for walk-in rewards vary by area.
When you change locations in the course of a busy shopping day, you can refresh your list of stores by just pulling down on the screen. There are a limited number of walk-ins that you can score kicks for each 30-day period. Once you have reached your monthly limit, you won't be able to get points for a walk-in until it resets. - Scanning products: you can earn kicks by walking into a store and scanning certain products listed in the app. This is probably my least favorite way to earn kicks, because it requires actual effort, and I'm lazy, but when I'm just at the edge of a certain amount needed for a gift card, this is a guaranteed way of getting me to the amount that I need. Go to the Nearby tab and look for the stores with green bubbles that have an amount listed in the bubble. Click on the bubble. Look for "1 Scan" or "2 Scans" etc. and if you see those words, click on them. In the next screen, click on the item on the list that you'd like to scan. That will bring you to a special barcode-reader camera screen in your smartphone. Find the item in the store, hold your smartphone camera over the barcode and scan it. If it's the correct item, you'll get your points right away.
- Instant Surprises: you can earn a few kickbucks every day, even if you never leave the house. On your Nearby tab, find those stores listed that have a star in the green bubble. Click on them, and then click on the listing that says "1 Instant Surprise" Scroll through the screens. There are two types of Instant Surprises. The first type just gives you kicks simply for clicking on them. Those screens will have a picture of part of a green star and say "SURPRISE!" on them. They will ask you to "Tap for surprise." When you do, and then tap the pop-up bubble, you will get 1 or 2 kicks instantly added to your account. Generally, there are about 10 of these instant surprises available each day (and they do add up). The other type of instant surprise is when you get awarded a Bonus Badge. You'll go through the same screens, with the star picture, but instead of instant kickbucks, you'll win a badge that is part of a set. ( The green bubble will read "Woohoo! Pop me for your bonus!) When you collect the entire set of badges, you can win various prizes, like 5 or 10 kicks, a donation made to a homeless shelter or a pet rescue, etc.
- Coupons: I love the digital coupons on Shopkick and use them all the time. You can get them from either the "Fave" or the "Nearby" screens. When you find an offer you like, simply tap the "Use this" button and then show the screen to the cashier and ask her/him to scan it. If the scan doesn't take, the cashier will have to enter the code manually (it's a string of numbers), and that works pretty much every time. Coupons can be a percentage or dollar amount off a certain product, or an entire purchase, or just a special price good for one day. I've successfully used the same coupons more than once, too, another added perk. And yes, depending on the store, you can stack these coupons with any manufacturer's coupons you might have.
- Buy & Collect: At some of the stores, like Old Navy and Crate & Barrel, you can score a significant amount of kicks just for making a purchase. To see which stores qualify, look for a little green credit card icon in the listings on the Nearby tab. You must link the Visa or Mastercard credit card that you will use first in order to get the kicks. You can use Buy & Collect with a Visa debit card, but it must be credit-type transaction (you won't get kicks for any transaction where you need to enter your pin #). At Old Navy, you can currently get 500 kicks (or the equivalent of one $5 gift card) for spending $50. You can link your credit card by clicking on the gear in the upper left-hand corner, and then "Buy & Collect."
- Redeeming gift cards: Click on the "Rewards" screen to see which gift cards are currently available. Shopkick has a variety of gift cards available, including Target, iTunes, Best Buy, Macy's Sports Authority, Toys R Us, and lots of others. They are digital, so once you redeem a gift card, it will show up in your ME tab (the one with your name), under "My Stuff." Just show them at checkout and ask the cashier to scan them in (or enter the gift card number, if you are shopping online). You can even have them transfer the value of your digital gift card to a plastic gift card (I do this with my Target rewards). One feature that I'm not crazy about in Shopkicks is that they don't show you a reward until you have enough kickbucks to redeem it. So I know that I can redeem a $25 Target gift card for 6,250 kicks, but because I currently have 6,000 kicks, I can't see it on the Rewards screen yet.

Corelle "Winter Frost White" 30-piece service for six $36.37 shipped
Amazon has got a great special on the Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 30-piece dinnerware Set, service-for-6: $36.37 with free shipping. This works out to $6.06 per place setting or $1.21 per piece, which is even even better than those cyclical $25 16-piece service-for-4 sales, plus this set includes a 5-piece setting as opposed to the usual 4-piece.
- Features:
- Includes 6 dinner plates; 6 dessert plates; 6 10-oz. bowls; 6 18-oz. bowls and 6 mugs
- Vitrelle glass
- Winter frost white
- Dishwasher, microwave safe
At this excellent price, this would make a great set to put aside for Pesach. A friend of mine is getting married so I'm picking up two of these sets for a shower gift.
Overstock has got the same set for $66.03 plus $2.95 shipping. Target has the 16 piece service-for-4 set for $29.99, which works out to more than 50% more, especially when you consider that their set has 4-piece place settings. The Amazon price really is a great deal.
Get this Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 30-piece dinnerware Set, service-for-6: $36.37 with free shipping before Amazon decides to do one of their infamous price hikes.
