Toy shopping 75 years ago and how fortunate we are today


We interrupt this money-saving blog for just a moment to both wax nostalgic and count our blessings. 

I just thought you might enjoy seeing what people were buying their kids in 1937 (click on the image above to see it full size).  This is a page out of the 1937 Sears Christmas catalog (hat tip to WishbookWeb).  FYI, according to the Consumer Price Index Inflation Calculator, $0.98 back in 1937 would be worth $15.67 in 2012. 

Here's a great article put out by the American Enterprise Institute on how much more our dollars buy today in terms of consumer electronics value, and how very fortunate we are to live in 2012.
