American Tourister ultra-lightweight 4-piece set for $55.99 shipped

Wow, the price on this American Tourister Fieldbrook set is amazing.  I keep looking for the catch!

Get this four-piece ultra-light American Tourister luggage set in navy or black for $64.99 with free shipping (it's also available in red for slightly more, $74.86).   This luggage set includes a boarding bag, wheeled duffel, 21" upright and 25" upright. The set received a whopping 4-1/2 out of 5 stars over 31 customer reviews.
    Features:
  • 1200 Denier Polyester
  • Hand Wash
  • Ultra light-weight construction
  • Reinforced corners defend against the harshest travel conditions
  • Multiple exterior and interior pockets keep you organized
  • Push button upright locking handle
  • Smart strap on tote for easy travel
Here's what one purchaser had to say in her review:
We recently bought this set (in black) before flying across country with our 4 month-old baby girl. It held up beautifully! We all know how the baggage people throw around our luggage like it's garbage, and I couldn't believe how wonderful it looked after we returned from our trip. The only thing I would change about it would be the wheels -- I'm a sucker for spinners. However, the wheels on this luggage are high quality, and we had no problem maneuvering our way through multiple airports. I've owned many, many pieces of luggage (from the cheapest to the most expensive), and this set is, by far, superior. I would buy it over and over again! I'm an American Tourister convert for life.

But wait!  You can do even better on the price than $69.99!  Amazon is now offering a one-time 20% off promo code on clothing and accessories items (including this luggage set!) when you become a first-time email subscriber to Amazon Clothing.  Just sign up here and watch your email for the 20% off promo code and enter the promo code at checkout to receive the discount. The promotional code will expire 30 days after Amazon sends you the email.  After entering the promo code, your price on this set will drop to $55.99!  You can easily pay that for just one piece of American Tourister luggage. Big wow.

So, here's how it works.
  1. First, sign up for your subscription to Amazon clothing here.   This promotion is only valid for first-time subscribers. (I wasn't a first time subscriber, so I couldn't get the discount, but I still snatched this deal up at $69.99.)
  2. Keep an eye on your email inbox for the email from Amazon with the 20% off promo code.
  3. Once you get it, click here to add this luggage set to your shopping cart and enter the promo code at checkout.
  4. Your total will be $55.99 with free shipping!

Set of four non-stick Tortilla Shell Molds for $12.95

Amazon has got this set of four non-stick Tortilla Shell Molds for $12.95 with free Prime or SuperSaver (minimum purchase $25) shipping.

To prepare a tortilla shell with the pan, press a soft flour tortilla into the scallops pockets in the pan and bake it at 375ยบ for 5 to 10 minutes.   These are great for holding individual salads at a more formal meal (like a Sheva Brachot), though if you're creative you can use them to hold many different kinds of appetizers.  The presentation is beautiful.  You can also bake an ice cream cone recipe in these molds and use them for an edible dessert-holder.

Get this set of non-stick tortilla molds now for $12.95 before Amazon does one of their infamous price hikes.

Eden's Organic Black Beans, $1.16 per 15 oz. can with free shipping

UPDATE:  Amazon has doubled the price.  :(  This is why I have such a love-hate relationship with Amazon.
-----------------------------------------------------

Get a dozen 15 oz. cans of Eden's Organic black beans for just $13.87 when you select the Subscribe & Save option.  Because it's Subscribe & Save, shipping is free.  That comes to slightly less than $1.16 per can shipped.

Selecting Subscribe & Save is pretty much risk-free, even if you are doing it just to get the additional discount. You can UNsubscribe to Subscribe & Save very easily, by going to your account as soon as your order has shipped. Even if you completely forget to unsubscribe, Amazon will not send out an additional order without shooting you a warning email first, giving you ample time to unsubscribe and cancel any additional orders in time. It's pretty much an all-win proposition.

Read about all the health benefits of Eden's Organic black beans here on the Eden website (and note the price!).

Reader writes: I need elegant bridesmaid gifts that won't bend my budget!

Received this email from a Daily Cheapskate reader, Amanda K.:
Dear Susie:
Help!  I'm getting married in 6 weeks.  We're having a very upscale wedding and I've got 4 bridesmaids plus a maid of honor.  I know it's traditional for the bride to buy her bridesmaids a gift, but the wedding has turned out to be much more expensive than an I thought it would be, and my budget for all the bridal party gifts is just $75 (though I'd like to spend even less).  I don't want to buy them something cheap-looking or cheesy.  (No silver-plated ring holders, know what I mean?) Can you help?  My bridesmaids are ages 19-26, if that helps.
Sincerely,
Amanda K. in Minneapolis

Amanda, (and all of this summer's new brides,)  first of all, congratulations and mazel tov!  Now take a deep breath.

I know how stressful and budget-busting planning the perfect wedding is.  Here's an idea for your five bridesmaid gifts that is classy but won't break the bank.

How about an 18" string of 6-7mm freshwater pearls for $9.99 from Amazon, with free Prime or Supersaver (minimum purchase $25) shipping?

Pearls are the ultimate jewelry classic, and your bridesmaids can even wear these pearls to your wedding!  Granted, they are not the super-high quality Akoya pearls that can cost thousands of dollars, but genuine freshwater pearls can still be elegant and beautiful.

If you do plan on buying these pearls for your bridal party, since you are coming in so far under budget, consider buying your maid-of-honor an extra gift too: these Sterling Silver White Freshwater Cultured Pearl Button Stud Earrings for $9 with free Prime or Supersaver shipping.

Amanda, congratulations again on your upcoming marriage!

5 oz. beautiful and practical Chef's Planet cruet, $10.83

We ate dinner outside this past Shabbos (the weather in Denver has been magnificent lately) and I dropped and shattered the glass cruet that we've been using for homemade salad dressing for the last ten years on our back porch cement.   <Sigh.>  Tonight I looked online for a new one.  Here were my requirements:
  1. Smaller than my other one and lightweight.
  2. Something less breakable than glass but more durable than plastic.  Pyrex?
  3. Goes in the dishwasher. An absolute must (especially when you're dealing with bacteria-friendly oils).
  4. Drip-proof spout and tight-fitting stopper (my other cruet dripped down the side a little...very annoying).
  5. Pretty on my Shabbat table.
  6. Less than $15.
Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding.  This 5 oz. Chef''s Planet cruet is smaller, Pyrex (who knew they made Pyrex cruets!), dishwasher-safe,"drip-less pour spout," and it's kind of beautiful.  And it's $10.83 with free Prime or SuperSaver (minimum $25 purchase) shipping.

It received 4-1/2 out of 5 stars over 95 customer reviews!  Read what this customer said:
First, get one of these beautiful cruets for yourself, then check your gift list. It's a winner, and everyone who has seen it wants one, too! In my well-supplied kitchen, this is my treasured toy of the moment and earned an instant, permanent place on the kitchen counter. It is beautiful, balanced and truly dripless. The fine design, reminiscent of a perfume bottle, allows very controlled dispensing for the perfect olive oil drizzle without overpouring. The globe fits in the palm of your hand and the top does not fall out when held upside down. This leaves your other hand free. It is indispensible in general and appreciated when I am baking bread and need a few quick drops of oil with messy hands. It is beautiful enough to be art and practical enough for solid every day use. The design is brilliant. I find it helpful to reduce butter use even further to enjoy olive oil drizzled on grilled bread.

TRU Twin Dipper Slowcooker $16.28 shipped

Get this TRU Twin Dipper Slowcooker for just $15.29 plus $0.99 shipping from Kohl's.  Each crock holds 1-1/4 quarts. This slow cooker received 4 out of 5 stars over 18 reviews.  The one really negative criticism I could pick up from the reviews was that the crocks were too small, so keep the 2-1/2 quart size total in mind when you are buying it.  The only other minus I see is that you can't put the crocks in the dishwasher.  Otherwise, this is a really good price on a clever, practical appliance.

This double slowcooker was originally priced at $39.99 and is on sale for $19.99.  When you add it to your cart it will drop to $17.99 automatically.  Use promo code SUMMER15 (good through 6/3/12) to drop the price another 15% ($2.70) to $15.29.  Shipping is a flat $0.99, so your total is $16.28 (sans tax).

A little indulgence: which Vera Wang purse shall I get?

I know I don't actually "need" either of these two Vera Wang purses from Kohl's, but, well, every now and then, a girl has got to indulge.  It helps my budget quite a bit when that indulgence is under $10.  Now the only question is, which purse shall I get?

This Simply Vera Vera Wang Pleated Crocodile Wristlet in (not red but) Oxblood, made of faux patent leather is supercute and has got an interior slip pocket. I love the style, but I'm wondering if it will be too small (it's 4"H x 7"W x 2"D).

I love love love the bead detail on the clasp:

But then there's this Simply Vera Vera Wang Fold-Over Distressed Wristlet, also in Oxblood faux leather, with an interior slip pocket and also four card slots. It's slightly larger (5"H x 9"W x 1"D).

The material, even though it is fake leather, is just beautiful:

So which shall I get?  Both are on major clearance at Kohl's for $8.80, and with my promo code SUMMER15, I can drop that price by 15% to $7.48.  Shipping is $0.99, so the total damage here is just $8.47, a steal for a Vera Wang purse.  If you're going to indulge yourself, do it frugally.

So which one?  Which one would you get?  (Remember my credo ladies, designer pocketbooks, great shoes and of course, jewelry will never make you look fat.)

Walmart has got this Maylong "For Dummies" FD-220 GPS Navigation System for just $29.97.  Shipping is $1.97 or you can opt for free ship-to-store.  (Find a local Walmart here.)

30% off in-store only at Payless Shoes this weekend, and why that's better than BOGOHO: a little Shopper's Math review

Save 30% off your entire purchase at Payless Shoes, in-store only, when you print and present this coupon.  Good this weekend only, through 6/3/12.

But wait! I hear you saying.  Isn't it better to wait for one of Payless's cyclical buy-one-get-one-half-off (BOGOHO) sales?

Actually, no, it's not.  A BOGOHO sale may sound better, but:

  1. the most you can save on a BOGOHO sale is 25%, and that's only if the two pairs of shoes that you're buying cost the same.  If there is a price difference between the two pairs, that percentage drops.  Do the math with two $100 pairs of shoes, an easy, round number to deal with. Normally they would cost you $200 total. If you buy two $100 pairs in a BOGO sale, you'll pay $150 or save $50, which is 25% of $200.  If you buy one pair at $100 and one pair at $80, you would normally pay $180, but with BOGOHO you'll pay $140, or save $40, which is only a 22% savings.  In both scenarios, you'll do better with a 30% off coupon.
  2. BOGOHO forces you to buy two pairs of shoes.  With the 30% coupon, you can save on even one pair.
  3. BOGOHO forces you to buy items in even increments. So if you buy three pairs of shoes, you'll only save on the first two pairs.  If you buy five pairs of shoes, you'll only save on the first four pairs.  A 30% off coupon allows you to save on everything.
So, while a BOGOHO sale may sound better (ah, marketing), a 30% coupon is a whole lot kinder to your wallet.  Now, if Payless were holding a BOGOHO sale and you could stack this 30% coupon (yes, Payless allows you to stack discounts with their sales!), you'd make out like a robber baron, but unfortunately, there's no BOGOHO sale scheduled for this weekend.  But 30% off is still awesome.

Remember, even if you hate the quality of Payless shoes, they do have great accessories (I love getting my tights and pantihose there), so print the coupon and shop away.
