Have you got canner's envy? I do. All month long I've been watching my friends on Facebook posting pictures of their expertly canned bounty from their summer gardens. I'd love to can some summer produce, but alas, I have no clue where to even begin, and I'm a little hesitant to invest in all that canning gear and special pots and jars, etc.
Ball has come out with a beginner's canning set that allows you to make use of stock pots that you already own, and the whole set is only $17.88 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping. It includes instructions, 3 pint jars and a rack to use for lowering the jars into your boiling pots of water. It allows you to try canning without a huge investment in supplies and equipment. I'm going to try this, and if I find it easy and like doing it, then I'll start supplementing it with additional canning gear.
- Introductory home canning kit eases a novice canner into it with a trail set that makes use of existing kitchenware.
- Includes an illustrated, simplified instruction book with recipes.
- Also includes polypropylene rack with separate, fitted lifter that works in standard stockpots and 3 pint jars.
- Efficient, low-cost way to learn canning, which could save money and broaden supplies in the long run.
