Amost all of the major wireless carriers will give you a discount on your cell phone bill if you are an alumnus or student of a major university or an employee of a medium-size to large-size company. I have been saving 14% on my AT&T bill for years now as an alumna of the University of Pennsylvania. It's generally a no-brainer to add the discount to your current plan (though some carriers require that you re-up with a new contract, which might be worthwhile).
Generally, all you need to do to prove that you are an alumnus or employee is to have access to an email address with the suffix of your school or company. Here are the links to the major carriers' discount programs:
- AT&T: BusinessDirect Premier Discounts
- Verizon: Employee Discount Program
- T-Mobile: T-Mobile Advantage Program
- Sprint: Employee Value Program and Sprint Discount Program
- Sprint: AAA 10% discount
- Sprint: credit union 10% discount
- Sprint: LoveMyCreditUnion.org
- Verizon: Customer Appreciation 8% discount (do not apply if you already have a better employee discount as this erases that one)
