EXPIRED: $700 Calphalon AccuCore Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set for $349.99 on Amazon and why Calphalon is religion to me! My adventures in throwing out pots....

Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day is not cheap, but it is of very high value.  Amazon has got this Calphalon AccuCore Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set for $349.99 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping, which is actually the lowest recorded Amazon price on this set, which was priced at $699.95 yesterday. It got 4.2 out of 5 stars over 25 customer reviews (with 20 reviewers giving it 4 or 5 stars), and the reviews are worth scanning. It is an Amazon #1 Best Seller.
  • Five layers with copper core for controlled, even heating
  • Dishwasher, oven and broiler safe
  • Induction-capable
  • Long handles stay cool on the stovetop
  • Full Lifetime Warranty
This set includes:
  • 8-inch stainless steel skillet
  • 10-inch skillet
  • 2-quart Saucepan with lid
  • 3-quart Saucepan with lid
  • 3-quart Saute Pan with lid
  • 8-quart Stock Pot with lid
There are kitchen items which I've purchased and couldn't care less about the brand or type, and then there are kitchen items where the brand is, well, religion.  When it comes to cookware sets, I am a  true believer in Calphalon.

I have been through many, many sets of pots.  When I first moved out of my parents' house into my own apartment, I started with Farberware.  I graduated to T-Fal when I got married.  I've been through aluminum,  ceramic, non-stick, glass, Cuisinart, Emeril, Rachael Ray, WearEver, etc.  You name it; I've owned the pot.

And every single last one of them went into the trash or was given away or freecycled.  And it's because of all my purchase mistakes and "cheaping out" on pots that I've come to realize that cookware is an area where it makes no sense to get cheap stuff.   Buying a set of pots is an investment, rather than a one-time purchase.

I got to the point where I just refused to keep throwing away money.  About 12 or so years ago, I bought my set of stainless steel Calphalon at Bed Bath & Beyond and paid a small fortune for them.  (I used to be one of those stubborn, foolish people who thought the 20% off coupons at BB& B were the best way to save money.  I've come a long way since then.)  The Calphalon set that I purchased is the stainless steel tri-ply, which is actually one step down from the AccuCore set that's on sale at Amazon today

I never looked back and I have no regrets.  I've added to my set over the years, but I've never had to replace a single pot.  Because of the multi-ply construction, I had better control over even cooking temperatures and my cooking has definitely improved. I'm also able to cook with lower temperatures and get better results.  Unlike the anodized set, my stainless set goes right in the dishwasher and cleans up beautifully. Even after over a decade, my pots gleam, and I am not a gentle cook.

This is a picture of my 12-year old Calphalon stainless steel pots (below).  Yes, they are still in such great shape that I keep them out on a pot rack in my kitchen.  No black, burnt bottoms; no dings or dents, no peeling, no gauges, no chipped handles.  Can you say that about your 12-year old pots?  And believe me, I'm not the type of person who spends a long time taking care of her cookware.  I just put them in the dishwasher and then hang them on the rack.

my Calphalon set
Calphalon pots are incredibly well-made.  The handles are riveted on (not screwed on).  The lids are made of thick, tempered glass.  The pot bottoms are thick and they don't dent (at least mine haven't).  They are all metal, so you can put them in the oven and even under the broiler (without the glass lids).  And they are all covered by Calphalon's Lifetime Warranty.

So when this $700 Calphalon AccuCore set went on sale today for $349.99, I knew I'd be writing about it.  If you're sick of throwing out pots or embarrassed about the way your cookware looks, or frustrated with uneven cooking, invest in this excellent Calphalon set
