Frog, here, frogs there! Cute froggie items to buy for your Seder (on Amazon), priced from $3 to $11

"Frogs here, frogs there, frogs were jumping everywhere!"  What is a Seder for kids without at least a few froggie elements?

As I'm sure you already know, cookie cutters go well beyond cutting cookie dough, and can be used to cut melon, fruit, vegetables, etc.  For years, I've been using my Pesach froggie cookie cutter to cut out frog shapes in green peppers, which then go in my Seder-night salad.  Cutting frog shapes in healthy foods like veggies or even cold cuts is also a great way to get your kids to eat something good for them and turn it into something fun.  When I used to make kosher la Pesach "noodles" from scratch, I would cut out frog shapes and then float them in my chicken soup and my friends' kids would LOVE it.

Hat tip to Daily Cheapskate reader Chaia B. for telling me about this supercute froggie sink drain on Amazon for $3.99 (Amazon Add-On item).  Imagine your kids' faces when they go to wash their hands for Urchatz or Rachatz and see this little guy waiting for them in the sink!

Amazon has got these two CybbrTrayd Frog Molds, great for making chocolate frogs, frog jello or froggie ice cubes, which are a real hit with the kiddies (and most adults) at the Passover Seder.  There are two different ones, the larger frog one for $6.95 with free Prime shipping and the smaller frog one for $8.49 with free Prime shipping

Want to make chocolate froggie lollipops?  I checked with the OU and any paper lollipop sticks are fine for Pesach, like  this 150-count bag of Wilton 4" lollipop sticks for $3.45 (Amazon Add-On item).

No Seder table is complete without at least 12 dozen plastic frogs jumping around, am I right?  Amazon has this bag of 144 plastic jumping frogs for just $5.99  with free Prime shipping.

7 Super-Simple, Inexpensive Kosher-for-Passover salad spreads (each 4 ingredients or fewer)

One of my "rules" for Passover meals is to keep it simple and get back to basics. Here are seven uncomplicated "recipes" for Pesach-friendly spreads and dips. They each have four ingredients or fewer. Putting these spreads out all at once makes for a great appetizer course. For fun presentation, I like to put them in little glass bowls around the seder plate (with one bowl in the middle). You can serve these with matzoh, KFP matzoh "crackers," or even just plain raw veggies. You will need a KFP food processor to process/puree most of these.

It doesn't get more simple than this.
Avocado and Hearts of Palm:  Open a can of hearts of palm (if they are not already sliced, slice them into coins). Mix with a coarsely chopped ripe avocado, and a few squirts of vinegar/olive oil (or bottled Italian) dressing

Olive Tapenade:  Open two cans of KFP pitted Israeli olives, drain, process until smooth. Add a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil if you need to.

Roasted red pepper spread:  Roast three washed and cored red peppers until just starting to brown.  Process until smooth. Add a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil if you need to.

Hungarian egg salad:  Coarsely chop six peeled hard-boiled eggs. Saute one diced onion and 6 sliced mushrooms in a spoonful of extra-virgin olive oil until light brown, and add onions, mushrooms and most of the oil to the eggs, and toss. (Optional: season with salt, basil and paprika.)

Basic Babaganoush: Peel, slice and roast one large eggplant until light brown. Puree with a teaspoon of lemon juice until smooth.  Add a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil if you need to.

Basic Guacamole:  Puree 2 avocados with a tablespoon of lemon juice and two roasted garlic cloves until smooth.

Mushroom "Pate:" Saute 12 sliced mushrooms with a chopped onion in EVOO for about 10 minutes. Puree with 1/2 cup shelled walnuts until smooth.

Shopping for Passover at Costco 2019: UPDATED 4/10/19

To keep up with more practical information about saving money on your Pesach shopping, please join the Daily Cheapskate Facebook page here Get your Daily Cheapskate email by entering your email address here.  You can follow Daily Cheapskate on Twitter here.

Please make sure you check out and bookmark Pesach.DailyCheapskate.com
for ALL of DailyCheapskate's excellent deals and
resources on everything you need for Pesach/Passover!

For the past few years, I've been finding that I'm doing more and more of my Passover/Pesach shopping at Costco.  I'm originally from Brooklyn, but I live in East Denver, and we are fortunate to have a Costco in nearby Aurora, Colorado that stocks a nice-sized kosher section and a plethora of KFP/KLP (kosher for Passover/kosher la'Pesach) items.  But even if you live somewhere where the local Costco doesn't stock special KFP items, there are still TONS of must-have Passover items that you can buy at Costco that will cost much less than at your local supermarket.

Many of these deals (except for the specifically seasonal KFP items, like shmurah matzoh) are available for months before Pesach.   What I love about that is that I can make a significant dent in my Costco Passover shopping well before Purim, and save a ton of money as well. That takes a lot of the panic out of Passover shopping for me.

I've included price comparisons to previous years (if available).  Of course, your local Costco is going to have different items and prices from my local Costco.  If you'd like to send me photos of KFP items at your local Costco, by all means, please do (and make sure to include the price in the photo)!  It's still relatively early and I plan to do a great deal of updating to this post as we get closer to Pesach.

FYI, I'm not affiliated with Costco at all (other than being a shopping member) and I was not compensated in any way for writing this post.  I put this together strictly as a reference for Daily Cheapskate readers.  And while I'm Orthodox, I'm definitely NOT a posek, so if you have any halachic questions, please contact your own local halachic authority.

Please note that when I say that the OU allows an item for Passover without special certification, that means that the item must have an OU on it but does not need an OU-P.  To clarify, the OU can only certify items supervised by the OU. So if your item has another hechsher on it, it is probably not covered by the OU for Passover.

I've been doing these massive Costco-Passover posts for the last five years, and each year, they grow longer, as Costco adds more and more items to their Passover repertoire. These Passover-at-Costco posts are among Daily Cheapskate's most popular posts on saving money on Passover shopping.
Things that I haven't included: vegetables (other than Pesach staples like romaine lettuce and potatoes), fruit, and cleansers.  Some of these I consider rather obvious.  In creating this listing, I  wanted to focus on must-haves for Pesach that might not be on your radar.

Ok, grab your cart, make your list, and away we go.....

This pair of Sterilite 3-drawer rolling carts is $37.36 with free Prime shipping on Amazon ($18.68 each!). 4.2 out of 5 stars over 1,767 customer reviews, and an Amazon's Choice item.

These Sterilite carts are a great, frugal, long-term investment in your Passover kitchen. How can these inexpensive carts make your Pesach prep super-simple?  Check out how my friend Rachel R. (from Denver) uses her carts:

Use one cart to store small cookware/kitchenware items (spatulas, peelers, can openers, etc.). When you are setting up your Pesach kitchen, roll it in and cookware is already organized, ready to use. No emptying drawers! When Pesach is over, replace the cookware items into the drawers and roll the cart back into the garage or storage area. No packing or re-boxing!

Hate emptying pantry shelves for Pesach? Use these carts as your portable pantry! Store non-perishable cans and spices in the drawers. Roll in the cart for Pesach, roll it back out after Pesach. Brilliant!
