Get a Target RedCard and snag a $40 off $40 Target coupon

Sign up for a Target RedCard (through 7/25/20) and if you're approved, you'll get a coupon for $40.00 off a $40.00 purchase. It takes almost no time at all to sign up, and it pays.  It pays a lot.

Besides that high-value $40.00 coupon, here are the benefits:

  • 5% off EVERYTHING, ALL THE TIME.  Whether you shop in-store or online. That's 5% off the top without lifting a finger.

  • Free shipping on Target.com.  All the time, not just pre-holiday. No minimum purchase.  (Without the RedCard. there is a $35 minimum purchase for free shipping.)

  • Get an extra 30 days to return a Target purchase.

  • No annual fee for either the RedCard credit card or debit card.

Those are "official" benefits. Here are my personal reasons for getting a Target RedCard"

  • You can get either a credit card or a debit card.  The advantage of the debit card is that there is no hard credit check pull on your name; they just hook it right up to your checking account.  With a RedCard debit card, you never have to deal with a bill.

  • You will get special offers and coupon in the mail, including some for free items.  Periodically (especially around the holiday season), Target will run "RedCard only" promotions that are truly amazing.

  • If you get a Target Debit card, you can withdraw up to $40 cash at checkout per day.  Between this feature and being able to deposit checks on my iPhone, I don't even remember what the inside of a bank looks like any more.  What's a bank?  Seriously, this is a huge timesaver for me.

And now for a limited time, through July 25, 2020 only, if you sign up for a RedCard, Target will send you a one-time use $40.00 off $40.00 coupon.  And yes, this is in addition to the 5% off that you'll get with your RedCard.  By the way, there are a few restrictions on the coupon use, so do read the fine print.

UPDATE ON AMAZON FIRE PROMOTION: if you've got an American Express card and Prime membership, you might be able to save even more on the Amazon Fire

I've been seeing another deal on the Amazon Fire circulating around besides this one, where you can stack an American Express discount on top of the Prime discount that is currently being offered.
In order to get the deal, you need to:
  • Be a member of Amazon Prime, so that you can get the first discount of $15 or $25.
  • Have an American Express card that is a Payment Method in your Amazon account and earns Membership Rewards points.
  • Use at least $0.01 of your Membership Rewards to pay for the Fire on the final checkout page.
  • Enter promo code FIRE7TAB at checkout on the final checkout page.
Please note that not everyone will get this extra discount.  I couldn't get it, but other people I know got it on first try.

Sign up for a Target RedCard and get a coupon for 10% off your entire purchase.

No-brainer.  If you don't have a Target RedCard, get a Target RedCard. It takes almost no time at all to sign up, and it pays.  It pays a lot. (Get one even if you don't shop at Target frequently.)

  • Designate 1% to the school of your choice. You can designate 1% of every purchase to go the school that you select.  That 1% comes out of Target's pocket, not yours.

  • Get an extra 30 days to return a Target purchase.

  • No annual fee for either the RedCard credit card or debit card.
Those are "official" benefits. Here are my personal reasons for getting a Target RedCard"

  • Target has so many opportunities for saving money: mobile coupons and printable Target store coupons which you can stack with manufacturer's coupons, Cartwheel savings,  weekly gift card dealsprice-matching, etc.  (You can also get ShopKick points every time you walk into a Target store.)  Every single one of these opportunities is stackable with your Target 5% RedCard savings. Every single one.
And now for a limited time, through May 20, 2017 only, if you sign up for a RedCard, Target will send you a one-time use 10% off your entire purchase coupon.  And yes, this is in addition to the 5% off that you'll get with your RedCard.

The Discover It card: valuable perks (including 5% back rotating categories and late payment forgiveness)

Let me just open this post by saying that if you have a history of getting in trouble with credit cards, this is not the deal for you. (This is just not the right economy to be carrying a credit balance.)

We've always been pretty good with credit cards, taking advantage of sign-up offers, cash back, gift cards, etc. When we had some very large expenses, we were able to put them on credit cards, get the cash back or gift cards, pay them off right away, and make out really well for our efforts. We don't really carry balances more than a month or two, tops, and I can't remember the last time we were late on a payment.

So I do follow the various credit card companies and their offers to see which ones are worthwhile. One year, I tracked all my bonuses, gift cards and cash back checks from credit card companies and banks, and they amounted to almost $4,000. And the wonderful part was that I didn't buy or spend my money on anything I didn't already need to get those bonuses. If you can get to that place, you're working the offers to your advantage.

I've always liked my Discover card. It's not accepted in as many places as my Visa and Mastercards are, but I'll use it wherever it is accepted, because cash-back is my favorite reward (who doesn't love cash?).

Discover has completely reworked all of their various types of cards and now has a single card called the Discover It card. The really nice thing about this card is that they've reviewed all the perks of the various Visas and Mastercards out there and bundled them all together on the It card, making it a very attractive credit card to use. Here they are:
  • Customer reps are located in the United States (ALL of them) and you may always opt to speak to a human being, 24/7. Ally Bank has this feature also, and I can't tell you how much I LOVE THIS.
  • No late fee or rate increase on your first late payment. Late payment forgiveness has got to be my all time favorite feature, as even the most responsible person messes up sometimes.
  • Quarterly rotating 5% back categories. This is my second favorite feature. Every three months, they'll change out which categories they will give you 5% cash back on. This quarter, from January 2013 through March 2013, you'll get 5% back on movies and restaurants, up to $1,500 in purchases. (Now, if you're watching your budget, you shouldn't be spending $1,500 a quarter in restaurants and movies!)
  • 1% flat cash back on everything else. This adds up quickly, especially when you put your larger purchases on your Discover.
  • No annual fee.
  • No overlimit fee.
  • No foreign transaction fee. (Use it in Israel!)
  • Instead of waiting for your reward, you can use it to pay for things directly on Amazon.com.  I buy tons of stuff on Amazon and this gives me access to my rewards right away.

Roland 14 oz. can of Hearts of Palm, $2.37-$2.65 per can

I use hearts of palm every single Shabbat.  I either throw them in a green salad, or I make an easy side-salad of chopped hearts of palm, sliced avocado and fat-free Italian dressing.  It is somewhat challenging to get kosher hearts of palm out here in Denver and even more challenging to get them at a reasonable price.  At the store, a 14 oz. can of kosher hearts of palm cost between $3.00-$4.15.  (Truth is, even the hearts of palm that are not kosher cost about the same).

Awesome.  You can use this Mastercard discount only once, sadly.

Selecting Subscribe & Save is pretty much risk free, even if you are doing it just to get the additional discount. You can UNsubscribe to Subscribe & Save very easily, by going to your account as soon as your order has shipped. Even if you completely forget to unsubscribe, Amazon will not send out an additional order without shooting you a warning email first, giving you ample time to unsubscribe and cancel any additional orders in time. It's pretty much an all-win proposition. Shipping on Subscribe & Save items is always free.

So, to get this six-pack of hearts of palm for a great price with free delivery, click here, select the $15.89 Subscribe and Save option and check out.  If you've got a Mastercard you can use, that price will drop to $14.22 (or $2.37 per can); don't forget to enter the promo code MSTRCRD1 at checkout.  If you don't have a Mastercard, $15.89 is still a great price ($2.65 per can).

Hurry and snag this deal before Amazon pulls one of their infamous price swaps.

Get the full 15% off Subscribe and Save items when you pay with your Mastercard

Amazon has lowered their Subscribe & Save discount to 5%, but now, when you use your Mastercard to pay and enter promo code MSTRCRD1 at checkout, you'll get a full15% off Subscribe & Save items at Amazon in these categories:
This deal is good through 10/31/12, and only applies to the first Subscribe and Save shipment (though you may use it multiple times on other Subscribe and Save items).
