I agree with all of it! It's very hard to hold your ground, though. None of us wants our kid to be the "one" who has less than his friends. In my experience, this got really difficult at the high school level with clothing, cell phones, etc. It seems to set the stage for more of the same as the years go by. I think the best approach is to try to find like-minded parents so your kid doesn't feel like the only one without the latest expensive trendy items.
