I celebrated a birthday this month. Being a frugal blogger, I have signed up on a lot (a lot, I mean a lot) of mailing lists from various vendors. These vendors have marketing departments who wisely see customer birthdays as outreach opportunities, resulting in an inbox full of birthday freebies from various vendors. I know there are tons of birthday freebie lists floating all over the Internet, but most are impractical for me because they list the freebies at local restaurant chains, and since I keep kosher, I can't really indulge. And when I think about it, even if I didn't keep kosher, how many birthday meals can one person eat?
I came up with my own list this year, drawn completely from my inbox offers. Some of these are sort of cheesy birthday "gifts" like 15% off or reduced shipping. In my humble opinion, if you want to give a customer a gift, don't give her something that will just cost her more money.
I do like the paper coupon gifts (Chicken of the Sea and Driscoll's), as they are rare to come by and I doubled them to get some free items.
I bolded the ones that I thought were generous and useful. Those are the ones that I will almost certainly use or give away. I plan on going on a little mall crawl this week to gather up my in-store freebies.
