My Amazon price tracker went off today with a surprising deal. This large Shabbat hot plate (or "plata") is now $38.99 (its lowest historical price ever) + $18.20 = $57.19 shipped. The tray is 17" x 24", 110V and 400 watts.
(By way of comparison, Eichler's has a slightly smaller one (17" x 22") for $69.99 + $17.06 shipping = $87.05 shipped.)
Unlike regular hot plates and warming trays, these Shabbat hot plates are designed specifically for Shabbos use. They have ceramic heating elements and on/off switches (but no temperature dials) and can be left on throughout the Shabbat. They are not meant to be used for cooking but rather for warming up food.
I've had my eye on this hot plate for over a year now, and this is the very first time I've seen a real price drop. I'm not sure how long this will stay at this low price, so if you've been thinking about getting a "plata" for Shabbos or a spare one for Pesach, best to pounce on this deal quickly.
