----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Groupon has got a two bottle package of Chosen Foods Avocado Oil for $20.99  $15.99 with free shipping. I originally purchased this avocado oil from Costco and I paid $14.50 for a single bottle, so I was thrilled to find this deal.  Even Amazon is more expensive for this avocado oil ($23.99 + $2.99 shipping = $26.98).

So why avocado oil?  I'm so glad you asked.  From the Chosen Foods website:

Why avocado oil?
Mexican Hass avocados have a vibrant history, tracing back to the ancient Aztecs. Roughly 15 of the finest, richest, Mexican Hass avocados go into each bottle of avocado oil that we produce. The fruits are harvested by hand, graded for quality and size, and processed in house to ensure the purest product. Our avocados are grown in the most pristine of conditions. Nourishing, volcanic soil, year-round sunshine and timely rainfall provide our avocados with the best growing conditions. The result is a full-bodied, nutrient dense fruit that makes our avocado oil shine.

How is it made? Our avocado oil is cold pressed and naturally refined. Using a 100% chemical-free and low temperature vaporization process, we are able to extract out the impurities found in raw avocado oil, including chlorophyl, waxes, gums and sediments. The result is an entirely pure, high antioxidants oil with heat stable fatty acids. Chosen Foods avocado oil carries a smoke point of 500° F! Heating an oil past its smoke point degrades the nutrients, creates toxins and trans fats and produces an inflammatory response in the body. Avoid this by always choosing an oil to match your cooking temp.

Most high heat cooking oils, including common seed oils and peanut oil are processed using solvants, chemicals and extremely high temperatures. High temperature chemical extraction destroys any nutrients in the oil, including delicate fatty acids.
Smoke Points of Common Cooking Oils
  • Chosen Foods Avocado Oil – 500° F
  • Canola Oil – 435° F
  • Virgin Avocado Oil – 400° F
  • Virgin Olive Oil – 375° F
  • Virgin Coconut Oil – 350° F

Chosen Foods avocado oil can safely be used to sear, BBQ, stir-fry, deep-fry, roast or bake. And because of its mild, nutty flavor its the perfect oil for salad dressing and sauce, too.

(Kosher-keeping Daily Cheapskate readers will be pleased to hear that Chosen Foods avocado oil is under the hashgacha of the OU.)
