Simply spoon 3 cups of yogurt into the fine mesh strainer, and as little as 24 hours later, you'll have a healthful, calcium-rich, low-fat alternative to cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, and even whip cream. It can be used as a spread, in salad dressings, to top baked potatoes, mixed with fruit, or to make cheesecake. The unit works by allowing the whey (liquid) in yogurt to drain away, leaving the curds behind. It's all dishwasher-safe and seals to prevent odor transfer while it's in the refrigerator. (Simple instructions and recipes for using yogurt cheese are included.)
I'm getting one to try for Pesach, as KLP yogurt is readily available here, but KLP cream cheese and KLP mayo cost a small fortune.

That looks interesting...this is how they make "Greek" yogurt, so if you want you can take any yogurt, and strain it some more and get Greek yogurt .
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how you can use this for mayonnaise, since mayo is an egg yolk with oil emulsion (but its not hard to do at all if you wanted to save some money even for the rest of the year )
Yeah, I thought the mayo thing was a stretch too. I have a friend who makes her own yogurt in a Crock Pot who bought this thing for everyday. I'm curious to see how the cheese comes out. Definitely going to try this for Pesach.
