Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Passover is a month away!

It's Shushan Purim today which means we are a month away from Passover and officially into the Passover shopping (or shall I say "savings") season. Here's the first thing you need to know:

I've collected all of my current (and past) Passover-related deals at Passover.DailyCheapskate.com (Pesach.DailyCheapskate.com also works!). Just click on any of the deal categories, and there you are.  It's early into the shopping season, and some categories are still populated by last year's expired deals, so make sure you doublecheck the date on any deals out there.

The OU has published their 2018 Passover Guide!  Yay!

Based on the OU Guide, I have great news; I have some not so great news; and I have bad news.

Great news:  the OU has permitted all of the following coconut oils for Passover, bearing only an OU, without any special Passover certification, the "Virgin" version of these only. These can be found on page 58 of the OU 2018 Passover Guide.  (No more scouring the shelves for the elusive Spectrum Coconut Oil with the OU-P!)

More good news:  once again, the OU is once again allowing Costco's Kirkland Signature
Frozen Atlantic Salmon for Passover without any special Passover certification, as well as Costco's Kirkland Frozen Wild Salmon, which must be rinsed with water first. See page 60 of the OU 2018 Passover Guide.

Now the not-so-great news.  While quinoa is still kosher for Passover, only the "heimishe brands" are receiving the nod from the OU this year, and they all require special Passover certification (which means they are going to be super-expensive). See page 77-78 of the OU 2018 Passover GuideThe Star-K seems to have ok'd the Ancient Harvest brand again, but only the bulk size (page 7).

Finally, the bad news:  Sous Vide machines are not kasherable for Passover. <Sigh,> I know. See page 21 of the OU 2018 Passover Guide.  I have a message into the OU about kashering Instant Pots, and I'll let you know as soon as they get back to me.

Those are the big Passover news items.  In other minor news, Osem released their Pesach coupons early this year, and there are no decent egg sales yet in site.  Oh, and the Daily Cheapskate 2018 Costco Passover Shopping List will be out next week (here's the 2017 version).

But it's very early in the Pesach shopping season.  Let the savings begin!
