Cyber Monday Amazon Device Roundup PART 1, including adult Kindles, and Alexa devices: What's still on sale today? What's a must-have?

Every major Amazon device has gone on sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and there seems to be a bit of confusion between the difference between Kindles, Fires, Echos, Dots and Taps, etc. Below is the first part of my brief synopsis of all the Amazon devices on sale this week and what they do. Part 1 here will include adult tablets and Alexa devices. Part 2 will include children's tablets and tv-related devices, and I'll be posting that shortly.

Amazon has got the 7-inch 8 GB Fire Tablet now at $33.33 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping, the lowest recorded Amazon price on this super-popular tablet (previous price was $49.99). It got 4.2 out of 5 stars over 83,137 customer reviews and is an Amazon #1 Best Seller.

The Fire has 8 GB of storage but (unlike most other tablets) you can expand the storage by adding a memory card, as needed, which is a brilliant feature. It does pretty much everything that an iPad (ten times the price) does (this is my opinion as an owner, not a stone-cold fact). This make for a terrific Chanukah gift.

This looks to me like a high-end e-reader for people who make heavy use of their Kindles, with all the nice bells and whistles that make e-reading a pleasure.

Save $40 on the Amazon Echo, priced at $179.99, but today it's $139.99 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping. It got 4.4 out of 5 stars over 45.762 customer reviews and is an Amazon #1 Best Seller. It's a voice-responsive. immersive, 360º omni-directional audio speaker that can play music, answer questions, read audiobooks, relay the news, report traffic and weather, give info on local businesses, provide sports scores and schedules, control lights, switches, and thermostats with compatible home devices, and more. Amazon is adding more and more functionality to the Echo all the time.

Save $10 on the Amazon Echo Dot, priced at $49.99, but today it's $39.99 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping. It got 4.2 out of 5 stars over 3,174 customer reviews and is an Amazon #1 New Release. Echo Dot (2nd Generation) is a hands-free, voice-controlled device that uses Alexa to play music, control smart home devices, provide information, read the news, set alarms, and more. You don't need an Amazon Echo to use an Amazon Echo Dot, but from the reviews, it looks like it would need an external speaker in order to play music, etc. I would probably choose the Dot over the Echo in terms of value for price.

Save $40 on the Amazon Tap, priced at $129.99, but today it's $89.99 with free Prime/SuperSaver shipping. It got 4.2 out of 5 stars over 3,658 customer reviews and is an Amazon #1 Best Seller. From reading the description and reviews, the Tap is basically a portable bluetooth speaker that uses Alexa to do all the things that an Echo can do, but without voice recognition. You don't need an Alexa to use a Tap. The Tap seems like a device that's more music-centric than the Echo.

FYI: my husband and I bought these last year, so that we could travel with a tablet and not worry about breaking/losing/dropping it or having it stolen. I once left my $500 iPad in a rental car (I retrieved it after a day, but let me tell you, it was a heart-poundingly anxious day) and I swore never again to travel with it. I love traveling with my Fire....I can get my email, watch movies, read e-books, shop, get to anywhere on the Internet, take pictures, run apps, listen to music, play games, etc. and I never worry about it. It's a great travel tablet.

And this is basically the lowest price that Amazon has ever had for the 7" Fire. Grab this one now.

Amazon Fire 7" tablet for $39.99 (limited time); just $5 more than Black Friday price

Through February 13, 2016, you can snag the Amazon 7" 8GB Fire with WiFi for $39.99 with free shipping. This price is just $5.00 more than the Black Friday deal on this popular device, which got 4.2 out of 5 stars over 27, 941 customer reviews and is an Amazon #1 Best Seller.

There have been $50-and-less tablets out there since the iPad's invention, but let's face it: they were crummy, slow, cheap, do-nothing tablets. You got what you paid for. But I've got the Amazon Fire and I use it for traveling and let me reassure you that you get much more than you pay for. My husband and I each own iPads but I hate the idea of lugging around a $500 tablet on a plane across the country. I can't seem to find a single thing that our iPad does that the Fire doesn't do, and if you drop it, spill coffee on it, or it gets stolen or lost, the financial loss is not crushing. You can work on it and you can also watch movies, take pictures, play games, Skype, get to the Internet, check your email, log into social sites, listen to music, read e-books, etc. on the Fire. It's a full service tablet.

It's got 8 GB of storage but (unlike most other tablets) you can expand the storage by adding a 16 or 32 memory card, as needed, which is a brilliant feature (why can't I do that on my iPad?).

Frankly, I think this is a great tablet deal at $49.99, but at $39.99, it's killer.

One year of digital Consumer Reports for $5.00 on Amazon (readable on any tablet or mobile device)

Amazon has got a fantastic offer on one of my favorite magazines, Consumer Reports!

Consumer Reports is probably one of the most worthwhile subscriptions that you can buy. When it's on sale, it's usually around $20/year for the print edition. I don't mind paying that much, because I consider my subscription to Consumer Reports as a smart investment in making good choices. The amount that I spend on the subscription has probably saved me hundreds (thousands?) in NOT buying poor quality items that have large marketing budgets. We used Consumer Reports to research our kitchen appliances, our back yard furnishings, our computer peripherals, our iPads, our phones; it even helped us decide what brand of paint to use when we repainted. We've used Consumer Reports for pretty much every important purchase we've made in recent years.

However, I totally understand that not everyone is willing to spend $20.00 on a single magazine subscription, no matter how valuable it is.

Now you can get the Kindle digital edition of Consumer Reports for one year for only $5.00 from Amazon (42 cents per issue)! And before you say, "I don't own a Kindle," no worries there, because if you own a ~~computer~~, tablet, or mobile device, you will be able to read this edition (just install the FREE Amazon Kindle App on whatever device or computer you own).
