Amazon has got a fantastic offer on one of my favorite magazines, Consumer Reports!
Consumer Reports is probably one of the most worthwhile subscriptions that you can buy. When it's on sale, it's usually around $20/year for the print edition. I don't mind paying that much, because I consider my subscription to Consumer Reports as a smart investment in making good choices. The amount that I spend on the subscription has probably saved me hundreds (thousands?) in NOT buying poor quality items that have large marketing budgets. We used Consumer Reports to research our kitchen appliances, our back yard furnishings, our computer peripherals, our iPads, our phones; it even helped us decide what brand of paint to use when we repainted. We've used Consumer Reports for pretty much every important purchase we've made in recent years.
However, I totally understand that not everyone is willing to spend $20.00 on a single magazine subscription, no matter how valuable it is.
Now you can get the Kindle digital edition of Consumer Reports for one year for only $5.00 from Amazon (42 cents per issue)! And before you say, "I don't own a Kindle," no worries there, because if you own a
UPDATE 1/25/16: Thank you very much to Daily Cheapskate reader, Margo W., for pointing out that the Consumer Reports subscription will not work with Kindle for PC or Kindle for Mac. It will work only on iPads, Android tablets, Kindles, Fires, or other ios, Fire or Droid phone devices. If you subscribed though yesterday's post hoping to read Consumer Reports on your PC, you can still cancel without being charged, as you are still well within the 30-day trial period. With my apologies.
This subscription does auto-renew, but it's ridiculously easy to shut that down in just two clicks. This subscription opens with a free 30 day trial so that it technically "renews" once the trial is over, which means that your credit card is not charged the $5.00 subscription cost until 30 days have passed. Once 30 days have passed and that $5.00 has been charged to your card, click here and go to your Amazon Newstand Subscriptions Settings page, find your subscription and click on "Actions" and then "Turn off auto-renewal." That's it, you're done. After a year, your subscription will just expire and you will be charged not a penny more.
