Comcast offering low-cost broadband Internet access for lower-income families with kids


Comcast is starting out a new service for lower-income families called Internet Essentials. The program provides high-speed XFINITY Economy Internet Service for $9.95 per month with no activation or equipment rental charges, a discounted $150 computer, and free digital literacy training.

To qualify for this, you need to meet the following criteria:
  • You must live in a Comcast Internet service area.
  • You must have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program.
  • You must have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
  • You must not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment
