Amazon Prime Day Primer: Discounts and Rules Round-up, UPDATED!

UPDATE:  Now that we are here, looking Prime Day, 7//12/16, right in the eye, I just want to fill you in with a few updates.

Prime Day starts at 12:00 midnight Pacific time, which means 3:00 a.m. Eastern time, and yes, I will be up all through the night and tomorrow, with a coffee I.V. stuck in my arm, faithfully pointing you towards THE BEST Prime Day deals.

Amazon claims that they will be bringing you 100,000 new deals.  I will NOT be bringing you 100,000 new deals.  But I'll probably be showing you the best 100 or so.  And I hope you'll join me right here.

Here's everything you need to know so far; I'm going to break it down for you and run through some of the current discounts and Prime Day "rules" that we already know about. I hope this will make the whole Prime Day thing a little less overwhelming.

When does Prime Day start?
Tonight, 7/12/16, at:
  • 12:00 midnight Pacific
  • 1:00 a.m. Central
  • 2:00 a.m. Mountain
  • 3:00 a.m. Eastern
Is it going to be like last year's Prime Day?

Amazon has listened and addressed all of the concerns and complaints about their first Prime Day and the way things are looking, this Prime Day is going to be killer

Do you have enough coffee?

I'm not ot a Prime member.  How do I get in on the action?  What if I already used up my Prime trial?

Not a member of Amazon Prime yet, but really want to take advantage of all these Prime Day deals?  Now is a great opportunity to get on board the Prime train with this FREE 30-day Amazon Prime trial. (Cancel before the end of the trial period and pay nothing.)

If you already used up your free Amazon Prime trial offer, another option is to sign up for just one month of Prime for $10.99 over here. (Cancel right before the start of the new month and you'll pay for just one month's worth of Prime.)

How do I keep up with Daily Cheapskate updates on Prime Day?

I thought you'd never ask.  Instructions are right here.

So what kind of deals will be available on Prime Day?

There will be three types of deals available on Prime Day:
  • Prime Day Spotlight Deals:  Spotlight Deals feature top brands and popular items with deep discounts that last until Amazon runs out of stock. These are the best deals you'll find on Prime Day.  You can find the best of these posted on Daily Cheapskate and links to those posts on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Amazon Lightning Deals: a Lightning Deal is a promotion that lasts for a short time, usually just a few hours. I'm guessing that on Prime Day, because there will be such low prices, Lightning Deals will go for just a few minutes.  Because of the time element involved, I'll be posting about the best of these Lightning Deal directly on the Daily Cheapskate Facebook page
  • Prime Savings and Deals:  promotions that run all day or within Prime Day.  I'll be posting these as soon as they are released, on Daily Cheapskate and links to those posts on Facebook and Twitter.
Is there some sort of centralized place on Amazon to find Prime Day deals?
There are two pages that you should bookmark right now.
Are there any special Prime offers that have been leaked, so I can plan ahead?  And what are the Prime Day offers that are currently available (besides the Prime Deals of the Day)?
Remember, if you want to get in on the Prime Day actions, now is a great opportunity to get on board the Prime train with this FREE 30-day Amazon Prime trial. (Cancel before the end of the trial period and pay nothing.)

If you already used up your free Amazon Prime trial offer, sign up for just one month of Prime for $10.99 over here. (Cancel right before the start of the new month and you'll pay for just one month's worth of Prime.)

Ok, let's sharpen our credit cards and  I'll meet you back here on Prime Day!
