Have you checked out the Skybell Video Doorbell yet?  We got ours back in January and we absolutely love it.  You can see who is at your front door, and speak to your visitor from your smartphone, no matter where in the world you happen to be at the time.  We've used it numerous times when we were out of town and it's been an amazing security device.  (You can read my review back here.)

 If you're not familiar with the Skybell, here's how it works:

After you install the Skybell, when someone rings your doorbell or triggers a motion sensor at your front door, Skybell sends an alert to your smartphone. You will be able to see, hear, and speak to your visitor, no matter where you are.  So if you are on vacation or out at work or shopping, you can answer your doorbell as if you were home!  (FYI, the motion sensor can easily be turned off for Shabbos, which is what we do.)

Last year, we had a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood (which is normally a very safe area), done by a gang that would ring the doorbell of a house in the middle of the day and then if no one answered, they would go around to the back door and break in.
