"Check In to Win:" Walmart's Shopkick-like copycat app

There's a new Iphone app out that mimics the Shopkick app, but is proprietary only for Walmart and Sam's Club stores.  It's called "Check In to Win." You can download it for the Iphone here.  There are no versions available for other devices (like the Android) and it doesn't work well on the Iphone 4S yet (they are working on that).

Basically, you download the app to your Iphone, and you can earn points in three ways:

1. Check-in: checking in to a Walmart or Sam's Club location.  You physically need to be in the store to get check-in points. Currently, you get five points for each location check-in.
2.  Scan & Earn: once you are physically at a store location, you can scan particular items to earn more points. Currently. you can earn between 5 and 25 points for scanning an item or a combination of items.
3. Taking a "Bonus Spin."  You need to scan a "combo play" (listed in the "Scan and Earn" section of the app) to win points from the "Bonus Spin" wheel. 

The Rewards are basically Walmart, Sam's Club and Itunes e-gift cards, with a ratio of 50 points to each gift card dollar, so a $5 gift card at Walmart is 250 points, and a $100 gift card at Walmart is 5,000 points.

I've downloaded the app, but I actually haven't tried it out yet.  I'm planning on giving it a whirl later on this week at Walmart.   It appeals to me because I love the Shopkick concept so much.   I'll be curious to see if Walmart start putting exclusive coupons on the app, as Shopkick does, and if it takes off as well as Shopkick has.
