One of the things I've been tracking for the last year or so is the price of peanut butter. Peanut butter is a staple in many homes, and I think it's a good indicator of grocery price trends. I tracked seven different Skippy peanut butter items on Amazon here, and sadly, the trending indicators are not good.
When DC reader Caroline asked me about peanut butter sales, I skipped the Skippy and went right to Peter Pan for some more reasonable pricing. I found these two great deals:
Peter Pan creamy, pack of three 40 oz. jars, $17.07 with Amazon Subscribe & Save, with free shipping. This comes to 14 cents per ounce, which is one of the lowest prices I've seen on any brand name creamy peanut butter in recent months.
Peter Pan crunchy, pack of three 40 oz. jars, $19.04 with Amazon Subscribe & Save, with free shipping. This comes to 16 cents per ounce, which, again, is one of the lowest prices I've seen on any brand name crunchy peanut butter. I don't know why crunchy peanut butter always seems to be a little bit more expensive than creamy (but it is).
Selecting Subscribe & Save is pretty much risk free, even if you are doing it just to get the additional discount. You can UNsubscribe to Subscribe & Save very easily, by going to your account as soon as your order has shipped. Even if you completely forget to unsubscribe, Amazon will not send out an additional order without shooting you a warning email first, giving you ample time to unsubscribe and cancel any additional orders in time. It's pretty much an all-win proposition. Shipping on Subscribe & Save items is always free.
Grab these Subscribe & Save deals on Peter Pan peanut butter before Amazon decides to pull one of their infamous price hikes.
