Now, the OU kosher Cabot Sharp Cheddar cheese will be available in Costcos on the East Coast (in-store only) in 1.5 lb. loaves for $6.29! That's the equivalent of getting it for $2.10 per 8 oz. brick, a major steal. Unfortunately, only the East Coast Costcos will be carrying it. Living in Denver, well, it doesn't do us much good.
But the folks at Cabot Cheese were kind enough to give DailyCheapskate readers a discount on all kosher orders bought through their online shop. When you purchase the OU Kosher Sharp Cheddar and enter promo code CHEAPSKATE at checkout, you will get 10% off your order on the single 8 oz. bricks and 5% off the (already discounted) case of a dozen 8 oz. bricks.
That means that the single bricks are reduced from $3.49 to $3.14 each and the bricks in the case are reduced from $2.97 to $2.82 each. Do I need to tell you how inexpensive this is for OU-kosher cheese, especially high-quality cheddar from Vermont? This promo code is good through 5/31/12.
Shipping starts at $6.75, which is actually not too bad when spread out over several bricks. We paid $9.75 shipping for a case, which added $0.81 to each brick, and this averages down, the more cheese that you order. With the promo code discount, this will come to $3.63 per 8 oz. brick in each case, still very reasonable for kosher cheese. But be aware, the Cabot people have informed me that since it's getting warmer outside, they might need to start requiring 2-day shipping (which is significantly more expensive) to some areas out west after this Thursday, so if you're planning on buying this, try to order this week.
I just ordered two cases for me and people in my community to share :)
