My Frugal Barbecue: buying skewers and starting a BBQ Box

My husband and I are having a July 4th Barbecue this year.  My goal is to throw the whole shabang for about fifty adult guests and twenty children for no more than $125.  Read about it here.  Follow along and see how my frugal barbecue planning evolves.

I made my first Frugal Barbecue purchase today.  I purchased one hundred 12" bamboo skewers on Amazon for $3.20 with free shipping.  Bamboo skewers (as I found out last year) are great for a crowd.  Soak them for a few hours before using on the grill and then just toss them (or recycle them in the fireplace) when you're done.  This is by far the best price I've seen for this quantity and length of skewers.

The second thing I did was start a "Barbecue Box," similar to my Pesach box concept.  I just took a large paper crate, wrote "BBQ" on the side, put it downstairs in my basement, and for the next month and a half, I'll be tossing inside all the non-perishable stuff that I'll be gathering for the barbecue.  It's already filled with condiments and some paper goods that I had in the house.  (I have another box that I use year-round for Passover purchases too.)  I've got a large envelope scotch-taped to the side of the box for receipts and lists.  Not too high-tech, but it keeps everything in one place.
