Well, it's a new month and a new year. If you're new to DailyCheapskate because you happened upon our little money-saving community during your December holiday shopping, I hope you'll continue to join us and become a regular (and bring a friend!).
Keep in mind that January is one of the most important months on the frugality calendar. Why? Here are just a few reasons:
- Returns. Stores are going to be glutted with returns, and those items are going to be marked down substantially.
- After Christmas clearances: electronics, toys, etc. are all going to be going on sale. The best time to shop for things you need is when no one else wants them.
- Gift cards: I know that many of you have received gift cards as gifts in December. Before they go forgotten into that black hole of your desk drawer, check out the stores and see if there are any sales or deals on items that you need or want and redeem those gift cards. Gift cards for very useful stores like Home Depot, Target, and Walmart should go up on a bulletin board in the kitchen, to be saved for regular shopping trips.
Hang on to your hats; we're going to save some real money this year.
