Wall Street Journal: "Customers Say to Cable Firms, 'Let's Make a Deal'"

Remember back here, where I talked about my haggling negotiating experience with my cable company?

Well, the Wall Street Journal has come out with a great article about just that...how people have saved hundreds of dollars by negotiating with their cable companies: Customers Say to Cable Firms, 'Let's Make a Deal'.  The article is definitely worth a read and might help prepare you to negotiate.  (Hat tip to MyMoneyBlog for letting me know it was there.)

The basic upshot is that cable companies are willing to lower your monthly bills, but you need to ask them to do it; they won't offer it on their own.  Worth a half-hour phone call? Absolutely.

  1. The problem is, its not always a half hour... In my personal experience, I was unsuccessful, after over an hour!!! Not worth my time, almost :(

  2. Gitel, I'm surprised. Did you threaten to switch to another company? That usually softens them up considerably.
