IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT THE STATUS OF QUINOA FOR PESACH:
I just called the CRC (Chicago Rabbinical Council) for some clarification, and it appears that I misread their Pesach alert. You cannot use just ANY 12 oz. box of Ancient Harvest Quinoa, only the SPECIFIC PESACH RUN, lot number, 3.01.14 k. Right now, the only place to get it is from the manufacturer directly, with this link here. They are selling a case of 12 boxes for $43 with approximately $15-20 in shipping costs, or about $4.85-$5.25 per box.
I was able to cancel my order from Soap.com in time because it hadn't shipped yet. If you ordered this quinoa from Soap.com, you may return it for a full-refund (they will give you a free UPS return shipping label) if you send it back in its original packaging within ten days of receiving it, so if you ordered it for Pesach, you might want to send it back as soon as it arrives.
My profoundest apologies to my kosher-keeping readers for my misinterpretation of this kashus alert. I'm grateful that Soap.com has a liberal return policy, so that no one will suffer any monetary losses.

Shoot! That rules out the big costco bag... Guess the chicago fb pesach coop will be launched this morning. Thanks, Susie!
ReplyDeleteI know, I also bought The Big Costco Bag. :( Looks like we'll be eating quinoa well into Shavuos. I'm seriously thinking of donating the whole bag to Tomchei Shabbos.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I usually buy quinoa in bulk at whole foods, for about 2.99/lb. It's very close (within about a dime, I think) of the same price per pound as at Costco--and I'm not sure which costs more, to be honest--and then I don't have to store the big bag in my small apartment.
ReplyDeleteBut for Pesach... yeah. Time to buy the case. Hey, at least the cRc isn't outlawing quinoa completely.
Thanks for the link to the CRC about which Quinoa is usable for Pesach this year. It is important to note that the CRC only approved a specific lot code 3.01.14 k of Ancient Harvest which was done as a SPECIAL PASSOVER RUN... you may or may not get that lot when you order from soap.com I bought a case of the Passover run (we're not planning on reselling it) direct from the manufacturer's site who has these special run while supplies last... http://www.shop.ancientharvestquinoa.com/Traditional-White-Quinoa_c16.htm
ReplyDeleteThanks Lev, I just saw your comment and you are 100% correct. Please read my retraction.
