These subscriptions do auto-renew, but no worries, here's what you do to easily fix that: right after you subscribe, wait about 10 minutes (it sometimes takes a while to show up), and then, under your Amazon account, click on the Manage Magazine Subscriptions link, find the magazine that you subscribed to and deselect the auto-renewal option.  Voila, no more auto-renewal!

If this is a gift, you also have the option of having Amazon send a nice gift note via email saying that the recipient will receive a gift subscription, or you can even print your gift note out and include it in a Father's Day card.
