Ten Friendly Faces of Corporate Giants

Consumer, know thy products.

Think you're supporting local, smallish, eco-friendly, organic companies when you buy products from Burt's Bees, Naked or Odwalla smoothies, Tom's of Maine, Kashi Go Lean, Stonyfield yogurt, etc.?

Would it surprise shock you to find out that Burt's Bees is owned by Clorox (yes, Clorox!), Naked is owned by Pepsi, Odwalla is owned by Coke, Tom's of Maine is owned by Colgate, Kashi is owned by Kellogg, and Stonyfield is owned Dannon?

Read this great short piece, 10 Friendly Faces of Corporate Giants, revealing the mammoth corporate entities behind the natural and organic products in your cabinets.

  1. Yes! Color me surprised. Especially Stonyfield and Dannon. Wow, their marcom people do a good job of distancing themselves.

  2. Makes you kind of realize the power of marketing and branding. When I use my Burt's Bees lotions, I picture some old guy in a bee net hood extracting pollen and mixing it up into lotion in his barn. I certainly can't imagine that it's made in the same plant as, say Pine Sol! These marketing people have built up quite a cachet around the organic/natural industry.
