Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day (11/16/15): up to 60% off select PNY Memory Products.. Get a PNY PowerPack (a must-have traveling and emergency device) for $12 and get PNY Flash drives for as low as 22 cents per gig

Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day today, 11/16/15, is up to 60% off PNY memory.  There are some excellent savings on flash memory, memory cards, and USB flash drives products from PNY.

My two favorite finds in this Gold Box deal are 1) the PNY Power Pack Battery Charger and 2) the flash drives, because they are both useful and very well priced in this deal.

First, the PNY PowerPack Battery Charger.  Ever find yourself in any of these situations?
  • You are in the middle of nowhere waiting for your friend or spouse to pick you up and they are late (and possibly lost) and your phone is dead and it's starting to snow and get dark.

  • You are in the airport and you're about to board and you are going to need your phone as soon as you de-plane, but it's dead or near dead with no time to charge it.

  • There is a blizzard and you didn't charge your phone or tablet before the power blew out and you have no way to communicate with the outside.

  • You're on a plane and would like to watch a movie that you loaded on to your iPad or tablet when you are in-flight or play a game to pass the time, but you forgot to charge it.

  • You're on a plane and writing a piece for work on your tablet but you've drained the battery on your flight and you want to keep working.
Every happen?  I didn't make up these situations; every single one of them has happened to me.

Amazon has some stellar prices on the PNY PowerPack Portable Rechargeable Battery Charger, which is compatible with the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Nexus, HTC One, Motorola Moto, LG, BlackBerry, and other Android and Windows smartphones and tablets.  These PowerPacks have excellent ratings (4.8 out of 5 stars over 30 customer reviews), and today they have low Gold Box prices.

I bought the AD10400 a while back, but I regret not buying the AD20800, since it give "the most bang for the buck."  These are must haves for traveling and I consider them mandatory safety and emergency devices.

UPDATE:  I just got back from a trip to Best Buy and while I was there I happened upon their battery chargers. They had the PNY T6600 in stock, which provides up to four charges, for $34.99.  This model is one step below the PNY 7800 which is priced at $11.99 with this Gold Box Deal.  Wow. That alone should tell you how awesome the pricing is on this Gold Box Deal.

Now on to the second part of the Gold Box deal, the flash drives.

My go-to price on flash drives (also known as jump drives and thumb drives) has recently dropped to around $0.32 per gigabyte; so I'll normally pay about $10-$11 for a 32 gig jump drive and consider that a good deal.  This Gold Box Deal is even better:

USB 3.0:
USB 2.0:
As you probably know, USB 3.0 Flash Drives are much faster (about 10X) than USB 2.0 Flash Drives.  Since the price difference per gig is not so much and I always believe in buying the best technology that I can afford, I'd go with the USB 3.0 drives.  If you are buying these for gaming, I think you must use the USB 3.0 flash drives.

The PNY Turbo got 4.0 out of 5 stars over 6,621 customer reviews and the PNY Attaché got 4.4 out of 5 stars over 2,821 customer reviews.  These are excellent prices on great products.

What do I use flash drives for?  Because flash drives are so physically small and portable but at the same time can hold so much information, they are ideal for data storage.
  • Travel:  this is my main use for portable drives. if I want to take my laptop with me on a plane, but also need a ton of files from my main computer, it takes me about 5 minutes to copy them on to a flash drive and put the drive in my purse.  I can work with the files by just plugging them into my computer, and then bring home the updated versions the same way.  Flash drives were made for travel.
  • Backup:  I have a regular backup drive, but there are certain files (documents, pictures) I'd like to keep multiple safe copies of in different physical locations.  You never know when a disaster like Sandy or a fire or a burglary (all God forbid) may hit you.  We actually have some flash drives tucked away in our safe deposit vault.
  • Music storage:  music files like mp3s are huge and tend to eat up my computer, laptop, iPad and phone storage very quickly.  While I keep the majority in cloud storage, there are a few I like to keep offline, and those are on flash drives.
  • Photos:  ever empty an entire summer's worth of pictures from your iPhone to your PC?  There are a few you'll want to keep on there, but the rest should go into storage.  Also remember that those wedding pictures of your grandparents from the 1940s just aren't going to last forever; scan them into digital form and back them up them on a flash drive.
  • Documents:  birth certificates, passports, marriage licenses, divorce papers, ketubahs, gets, citizenship papers, court records, even tax returns and receipts, financial records, etc. all should be backed up tucked away on a flash drive.  These are all things that are not easily replaceable.
