So why am I posting this now? Because judging from past years, once Purim is over and everyone starts to shop for Passover in earnest, these deals will either be unavailable or way more expensive. Good luck finding a Pesach cake mix on the shelves or a jar of pizza sauce for less than $2 in three weeks. One of the best ways to save money shopping for Passover is to do it off-season. Once Purim has passed us by and that last Shalach Manos has been delivered, the prices on kosher for Passover food start to skyrocket. And why shouldn't they? Doesn't everyone expect and agree to pay four and five times as much for Pesach groceries?
Not me. And this year, not you either.
Here are some Passover deals that I found on Amazon. Why Amazon? Because:
- I can get everything delivered for free with my Amazon Prime account. If you don't have Prime, order several items at once and if you exceed $25, you can get free delivery with SuperSaver shipping.
- If I order larger quantities than I need, I can split them with friends who are grateful to be getting Passover items at a low cost. (Facebook is great for shoutouts about splitting things.)
- I can pay for them with Amazon gift cards that I got from Swagbucks, the world's greatest no-brainer rewards program ever. That's a nice break from shelling out cash for Pesach groceries.
Many of the items listed below are "Amazon Warehouse Deals" which means that you ignore the exorbitant price listed initially and look right underneath it for the "other sellers" lower prices for the identical items. I've ordered a ton of stuff from Amazon Warehouse and it's all been fine. Everything listed here is available for free shipping, either with Prime or SuperSaver ($25 minimum).
- Cake mixes (I prefer like to make my desserts from scratch, but I know that many of you have got to have your Pesach mixes):
- Liebers Passover Chocolate Cake Mix,14 oz., pack of 4, $7.77 ($1.94 per mix)
- Liebers Passover Coffee Crumb Cake Mix,14 oz., pack of 4, $10.88 ($2.72 per mix)
- Liebers Passover Brownie Cake Mix,12.5 oz., pack of 4, $11.41 ($2.85 per mix)
- Cereals, hot & cold (this is another item that I feel most people can do without on Pesach. Feed your kids matzoh brie and fresh fruit for breakfast instead. However, if you must have Pesach cereal, these prices at least won't break the bank):
- Savion Passover Crispy-O's Frosted Cereal,, 5.5 oz, pack of 4, $8.56 ($2.14 per box)
- Savion Passover Crispy-O's Honey-flavored Cereal,, 5.5 oz, pack of 4, $11.04 ($2.76 per box)
- Liebers Hot Passover Cereal, 10 oz. pack of 4, $8.33 ($2.08 per box)
- Savion Passover Crispy-O's Cocoa-flavored Cereal,, 5.5 oz, pack of 4, $11.04 ($2.76 per box)
- Other stuff:
- Gefen Passover Tuna, Solid White, 6 oz. cans, pack of 8, $20.72 ($2.59 per can). Even though this price is still way better than what we've got in our local supermarket or other online grocers, I refuse to buy tuna on Pesach. Instead, we eat fresh trout or salmon. But if you've got to have tuna, this is a decent price for Passover cans. I might cave this year because we're planning a lot of Chol HaMoed daytrips and tuna is so easy to bring along.
- Paskesz Passover Barbecue Diddles Potato Snacks, Family Pack, 3.5 oz., pack of 6, $10.86 ($1.81 per bag)
- Mishpacha Passover Vinegar, 32 oz., pack of 9, $19.15 ($2.13 per bottle). This is defintely an item you're going to want to split with friends, but at this price, they'll be happy to do it. Way healthier and cheaper to buy this and extra virgin olive oil from Costco and skip the overpriced Pesach salad dressings.
- Osem KLP Mediterranean Hot Peppers, 19 oz. cans, pack of 12, $17.86 ($1.49 per can)
- Liebers Passover Pizza Sauce with Oregano, 26 oz. jar, pack of 6, $10.54 ($1.76 per jar) You will want to split this one with friends too. Matzoh pizza and lasagna is a Pesach lunch staple at our house, so this one is a definite for us.
Have you started your Pesach non-perishable grocery shopping yet, or do you shriek at the very thought of it (or both)?
Thank you for bravely posting this, even though it did make me want to scream a little! I'm ordering hte tuna, cereal and vinegar. These are GREAT Pesach prices, especially if you dont live in New York.
ReplyDeleteMy mother said KLP canned sardines were available at her SuperTarget last week, but last year, they were not available *around* Pesach, so she was getting them then. (I happen to NEVER buy sardines, but if people like them, I guess now is the time to buy...)
ReplyDeleteUm, I meant she was buying the sardines ASAP so that she'd get them before they ran out. Sorry if that was confusing.
