Cuisinart SmartStick immersion blender in orange, $21.99 shipped

While I was making a batch of yummy asparagus soup last week, my old immersion blender finally up-and-died.  It's a good thing, actually, because I bought it when immersion blenders were new on the market and it didn't have a removable blending shaft, which made cleaning it rather awkward.  I'm more than ready for a new one.

I found this one on Amazon: a Cuisinart CSB-76 SmartStick 200-Watt immersion hand blender, which has a removable, dishwasher-safe blending shaft, and it's a Cuisinart, which is a name brand I like and trust.  I was dismayed to see that it costs anywhere between $27.95 and $34.99 depending on the color.  Too much.

Then I clicked on the orange version.  $21.99!  And I actually love the bright orange color.  It always boggles my mind when one color costs so much less (in this case, between 25%-37% less!!) than another color, when the item is functionally the same.  Ridiculous.

Shipping is free with Amazon Prime or spend another $3.01 and get free SuperSaver shipping.  These are temporarily out of stock but you can lock in the price and order now and Amazon will email you when they come in.  At this price, I picked up an extra for a shower gift.

Sears has got this identical item in brushed chrome for (are you ready?) $62.01.  Really, really ridiculous.

  1. Here's a great tip to find that $3.01 if you don't have prime. Go to www.filleritem.com, enter in the amount you need to cover, and it will give you options that will get you over the $25 free shipping threshold.

True story: I once ordered some nuts and bolts for about $1.25 to get over the threshold. They were shipped SEPARATELY from my primary item. But what do I care? The shipping was free to me...
