There are kitchen items which I've purchased and couldn't care less about the brand or type, and then there are kitchen items where the brand is, well, religion. When it comes to cookware sets, I am a strict believer in Calphalon. I consider it the Rolls Royce of kitchenware sets.
I have been through many, many sets of pots. When I first moved out of my parents' house into my own apartment, I started with Farberware. I graduated to T-Fal when I got married. I've been through Cuisinart, Emeril, Rachael Ray, WearEver, etc. You name it; I've owned the pot.
And every single last one of them went into the trash or was given away or freecycled. And it's because of all my purchase mistakes and "cheaping out" on pots that I've come to realize that cookware is an area where it makes no sense to get cheap stuff. Buying a set of pots is an investment, rather than a one-time purchase.
About 10 or so years ago, I bought my set of Calphalon (the Tri-Ply Stainless) at Bed Bath & Beyond and paid a small fortune for them. I never looked back and I have no regrets. I've added to my set over the years, but I've never had to replace a single pot. Even after a decade, my pots gleam and I am not a gentle cook.
Calphalon pots are incredibly well made. The handles are riveted on. The lids are made of thick, tempered glass. The pot bottoms are thick. They don't dent (at least mine haven't). And they are all covered by Calphalon's Lifetime Warranty.
Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day today, 12/20/15 is the 11-piece Simply Calphalon Easy System Nonstick set for $179.99 with free shipping. It's certainly not cheap, but this same set was priced at $299.99 yesterday and I don't think you will regret making the investment in this high-end brand.
This set got 4.3 out of 5 stars over 32 customer reviews and is an Amazon #1 Best seller.
- Simply Calphalon Easy System Nonstick has a trio of helpful features that set it apart from other cookware: etched measurements marks, silicone rims with straining holes and pour spouts: measuring, straining and pouring are easier than ever before.
- Heavy-gauge aluminum construction ensures even heating and is hard-anodized for durability. It also makes it dishwasher-safe.
- Lightweight, ergonomic, stainless steel handles make it comfortable to hold pans. Double-riveted for durability and stability. Silicone grips provide a cool, sure grip, even when cookware is hot.
- Glass lids with silicone rims hold moisture for more flavorful cooking. Etched fill and capacity lines let you measure ingredients without extra cups and help prevent boil-overs. Strainer holes in rims let you drain water from pasta/vegetables.
- Includes 8" and 10" omelette pans, 11" square griddle, 1 1/2- and 2 1/2-quart sauce pans with covers, 3-quart saute pan with cover and 6-quart stock pot with cover.
