We took advantage of a similar deal two years ago when Living Social was running this offer.  While I never would have bought a Sam's Club membership without this offer (we're Costco members), I actually did buy this deal, because I'd wanted to see how Sam's Club stacks up against Costco in terms of pricing and kosher food deals.  I consider it a good opportunity to try something that might lead to saving more money.  Turned out they had some better deals on salmon than Costco did, and more reliably kosher varieties available.  We eat a LOT of salmon, so it was worthwhile for us.

This is one of the kosher (OU) varieties of salmon I was able to get at Sam's Club, that I couldn't get at Costco.

When we did the Living Social deal, we also received vouchers for a whole bunch of non-kosher food, so I took the vouchers up to the customer service desk and asked to speak to a manager.  I politely explained to the manager that I kept strictly kosher, and would he be willing to substitute a bag of frozen Sam's Club salmon (which is reliably hechshered) instead of the food that the vouchers promisted, and he said that he would be very happy to accommodate me.  So I got a gift card AND a free bag of salmon (approximate value, $20), which made up for the price of the membership.  It was like getting the membership for free.

No guarantees that your local Sam's Club will do the same, but if you keep kosher (or are vegetarian or vegan or GF), it's certainly worth asking the question.  Sam's Club, like Costco, tries to be VERY accommodating when it comes to customer service.

But even if you aren't able to use the vouchers or substitute a kosher alternative, it's still like getting a $45 Sam's Club membership for $25, just for the value of the gift card alone.

*Just a note on the "new member" requirement.  I allowed my Sam's Club membership to expire over 6 months ago.   This morning, I called Sam's Club main number to see if I could qualify for this Groupon offer and it turns out that if you have not been a Sam's Club member for three months or longer, you may qualify as a "new member" and CAN use this Groupon.  So even if you already have taken advantage of an offer like this before, as long as you have been out of the Sam's Club system for at least three months, you can "re-up."  PLEASE doublecheck on your own with Sam's Club customer service if you are unsure:  888-746-7726.
