We actually own four of these (and paid more for them), and they are fantastic for soup or chili.  The lid keeps them from spilling all over my fridge and I can warm the soup or chili up in these mugs right in the microwave; no need to get another pot dirty.  I pop them right in the dishwasher when I'm done with them.
