The no-brainer way to back up your computer, with a great frugal offer

I love writing for DailyCheapskate, but as some of you know, it's not my main gig. I am actually a web designer by profession.  I've worked in the technical world for over fifteen years, and here's what I tell all my clients and friends who use a computer:

It's not a question of IF your computer will die.  It's a question of WHEN your computer will die.

I've probably owned a dozen or so computers in my lifetime. Without exception, and in spite of taking great care of them, every single one of them has choked at some point.  Viruses, trojans, daemons, dumping coffee on the motherboard, faulty equipment, installing badly written programs, etc. can all lead to computer failure.  43% (!!!!) of computer users lose irreplaceable files every year.Working in the industry that I do, I am crazyneurotic diligent about manually backing up my computer at least once a week to an external drive.  If I lose my data, I'm out of business.

But what about home users who don't have the time to back up their computers that often?  We have very busy lives. What would you do if you lost all 423 pictures that you took of your baby when he/she was born?  Or if you lost your wedding video?  What if you lost the 1,698 emails that you've been meaning to go through?  What if your children lost all their book reports, college thesis, and other schoolwork?  What if you lost crucial receipts, tax information, etc.?  We are becoming more and more dependent on data. Our lives are on our computers, and  remember, it's not a question of IF.  It's a question of WHEN.

Enter Carbonite.  Carbonite is a fantastic service that makes backing up your computer a total no-brainer. Once you sign up for the service. it automatically backs up your data on a continuous basis.  You don't need to remember or to do it yourself. If your computer dies, your data is safely stored and easily retrieved from  Carbonite's secure servers.  It's like storing a virtual copy of your computer in a bank vault.

Carbonite has come out with a discount and new trial offer.  Best thing about the trial is that doesn't require you to enter your credit card, so if you decide not to go with the service, you just cancel and you're done.  Sign up and get Carbonite online backup for free (no credit card)  for 15 days.  Once you've done the trial and are happy with the service, when you're ready to purchase, enter promo code EASY at checkout you'll get two extra free months.

Click here to snag this special deal while it's still around (you're only signing up for the free trial now).  The annual cost of Carbonite for your home is $59 per year, by the way.  If you factor in the two free months, that comes to $4.21 per month, basically less than the cost of a grande latte at Starbucks.  This is a no-brainer.
