For our last anniversary, my husband bought me this South Sea pearl necklace, which I absolutely LOVE. It's a little bit of a departure for me in terms of style, because in the last ten years or so, I've been wearing almost exclusively white-gold jewelry. This is the first yellow-gold pendant that I've worn for a long time.
During my recent stay in New York, the chain that the pearl pendant came with snapped. I wasn't really upset by it, as I thought it was too thin and too short to begin with. Now that I'm back home, I decided to replace the chain.
A while back, I made an expensive but very practical jewelry purchase. I bought a 14 kt adjustable long white-gold chain. It came with a lobster claw clasp that was was attached to the chain on a slider, so that you could easily adjust the length of the chain. I could wear the chain as short as 16" or as long as 22", or anywhere in between. Since I wear a lot of white gold pendants and I like to vary the length to accommodate my clothing, this was an extremely practical purchase. I purchased the chain in a local jewelry store, and I spent over $230 on it.
So, now that I am shopping for a new yellow-gold chain, I figured I might as well go for the same practicality. Why buy a chain that is a fixed length, when you can get one that is easily adjustable? Imagine my surprise when I found the exact chain that I was looking for, an adjustable 22" 14 kt. yellow gold box chain for $109.99 with free shipping and returns. That is less than HALF of what I paid for the identical chain in white gold in the jewelry store. Grrr. Live and learn.
It also comes in white gold and in rose gold, all for the same awesome price and great reviews.
